Internews is Hiring a Program officer Near Palo Alto, CA

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Program Officer to manage aspects of Listening Post Collective’s (LPC’s) business development, active LPC grants, and strategic partnerships.

Under the supervision of the Director for US Programs, this position performs high-level tasks including grant oversight and report writing, proposal development and writing, and cultivation and organization of strategic partnerships.

This role will be a lead writer for LPC concept notes and proposals, working closely with the Director for US Programs, LPC program staff, and the Internews Private Development team.

They will also create and manage systems to oversee grants associated with LPC programming, including tracking deliverables, writing reports, and engaging a second Program Officer, Program Associate, and business management staff as needed.

Lastly, this role will be responsible for managing and cultivating organizational and programmatic partnerships that are in strategic alignment with our mission.

LOGISTICS

Internews has US offices in Arcata, CA and Washington, DC which support a hybrid workforce with staff working remotely, fully in-office, or partially remote.

This is a remote-based role, and candidates based anywhere in the United States will be considered.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include :

Business Management

  • Support and manage aspects of LPC business development, including but not limited to the following :
  • Coordinate directly with the Private Development team on all business development opportunities including research and relationship tracking.
  • Create evergreen concept notes for LPC’s main program priorities.
  • Create collateral for LPC programs including program descriptions, impact stories, and case studies.
  • Write proposals in coordination with Private Development and the LPC team, including drafting budgets in coordination with the Business and Operations teams.
  • Engage with existing and potential donors on program calls.
  • Represent LPC and Internews at conferences and events, with funders and with policy experts.
  • Prepare correspondence and reports from conferences and discussion panels.
  • Track and manage LPC organizational and programmatic partnerships that contribute to our mission, including the creation and oversight of MOUs and other formal agreements.

Grant Management

  • Provide oversight to LPC grants including, but not limited to, the following :
  • Manage grant oversight in coordination with the LPC team, including progress towards program deliverables and budget tracking and projections.
  • Manage the reporting process including tracking deadlines, organizing templates, and preparing final reports.
  • Contribute to the development of internal tracking systems to reporting Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) data according to the project and organizational tracking and reporting systems as required by project agreements and LPC standards.
  • Support partners and Internews’ Americas MERL staff in data collection and reporting.
  • Create and implement a strategy for improved communications on program activities and accomplishments.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • University degree OR equivalent lived / professional experience.
  • Minimum five years’ relevant prior work experience.
  • Up to five years’ experience in journalism, community organizing, civic media, or NGO sectors.
  • Native-level proficiency in English (written and spoken).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Excellent writing skills and proven text-editing proficiency.

Strong analytical skills : ability to define, communicate, and resolve complex problems.

  • Strong interpersonal skills : diplomacy, tact, and the ability to negotiate.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to effectively manage a dynamic workload and shifting priorities.
  • Proven ability to operate in a multicultural and remote work environment.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
  • Flexibility to work outside traditional office hours as required.

Preferred

Note : Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but who are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.

  • Strong understanding of proposal development and non-profit grant oversight.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with partners from diverse backgrounds and communities.
  • Proven experience in report and proposal writing.
  • Experience with Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning.
  • Experience with graphic design software.
  • Experience preparing expense reports and budgets.
  • Spanish language proficiency.

The annual salary range for this position is US $70,100 US $87,600 .
