POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Coordinates and performs maintenance and custodial services to ensure the cleanliness and proper operations of the facility inside and out. Inform supervisor of any foreseeable problems with the facility. May complete duties related to window washing, meeting set up, pool cleaning, snow removal, grounds keeping, and other related responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Works with supervisor to coordinate facility maintenance, including planning and developing
  preventative maintenance.
• Ensures the proper operation of all mechanical systems.
• Completes repair work and projects in a timely manner. Works with all contractors that work in the facility and grounds.
• Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
• Works with outside agencies such as fire, health, building depts., etc. to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds.
• Performs cleaning tasks and routine housekeeping to ensure effective housekeeping of facility/grounds.
• Ensures grounds are litter free and well maintained.
• Provides feedback to supervisor for budgeting to support the preventative and annual maintenance plans and monitors expenditures against budget.
• Ensures proper levels of supplies (toiletries, cleaning products, anti-skid/salt, etc.)
• Participates with other members in the YMCA’s fundraising campaign.
• Advises supervisor on maintenance issues and projects as requested.
• Ensures that assigned vehicles (and other equipment) are maintained and operated in accordance with the policies and procedures of the YMCA.
• Ensure all safety and risk management procedures are adhered to.
• Provides feedback to supervisor to update facility plans periodically. May assist in the development of capital projects, consistent with the YMCA’s strategic plan and community needs.
• Maintains maintenance/custodial areas in a clean, neat, organized, and orderly fashion.
• Provides assistance with set-up/tear-down of special events, programs, classes, etc. as needed.
• Attends meetings and related trainings as required.
• Maintain a neat and clean appearance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years’ experience in custodial, building maintenance or general labor.
• Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, carpentry, and other maintenance-related areas.
• CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required within 30 days of employment.
• Appropriate certifications required within 120 days of employment.
• Current license to drive with record that meets YMCA standards.
• Familiarity with personal computers helpful; ability to read and write English
• Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations in a calm, quick and efficient manner.

• Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed.
• Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
• Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; shoveling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
• The work is performed both indoors and out, and may require travel to various locations.
