Hood Lumber is Hiring a Plant Manager Near Waynesboro, MS

Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include plywood and lumber manufacturing plants, and sixteen specialty wood product distribution operations, located in fifteen states serving the northeast, southeast and southwest United States.

Purpose: Manage the overall operations for lumber manufacturing plant in the most efficient and profitable manner, while maintaining good employee relations, meeting the company’s product needs, and operating within company policies and guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute operating plan for plant in accordance with company and division business plan.
  • Monitor and manage key operating measures for the plant, including budgets, costs, productivity, inventories, safety, quality, etc.
  • Prepare and monitor quarterly, monthly, and weekly budgets and forecasts as required.
  • Work with subordinates and division staff to establish goals for plant performance in all areas, and help staff achieve goals.
  • Manage ongoing plant operations through subordinate supervisory staff.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to supervisors and develop promising employees for future opportunities. Drive cooperation among plant employees.
  • Resolve operating, scheduling, and production issues as needed.
  • Serve as the primary business contact with division and company level management on planning, operating, and production matters.
  • Consistently reinforce a commitment to customer-focus toward both internal and external customers.
  • Oversee maintenance and plant improvements. Manage capital expenditures.
  • Establish consistent processes, standards, and expectations for the plant to ensure ongoing performance within company, regulatory, and legal requirements.
  • In coordination with the HR Manager, manage the human resources activities of the plant within company policies and guidelines.
  • Provide leadership for the plant and set an example of proper professional conduct for others.

Required education/experience:

  • Bachelor’s level education in forestry, business, marketing or a related area highly preferred but not required.
  • Ten plus years of lumber and/or plywood plant experience including direct supervisory experience (3-5 years), experience managing supervisory or lead employees (3-5 years) in a multiple plant operating areas.
