Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to serve as a human resources generalist at Taylorville Correctional Center.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing a variety of professional personnel services to staff including but not limited to personnel transactions, insurance inquiries, retirement and workers’ compensation related documentation.

Job Responsibilities
1. Coordinates and provides input into all inquiries, including personnel transactions regarding, but not limited to, continuous service, seniority and creditable service dates, salary increases, employee performance evaluations, leave of absences, suspensions, warning notices, transfers, appointments, employment verifications, credit inquiries, job postings, posting bids and records, determining eligibilities, requisitions, keeping position descriptions up to date with classifications, setting up facility interviews, serving as employee / candidate contract, etc.
while ensuring maintenance of confidentiality and security.
2. Composes documents, typing from hard copy and / or verbal responses.
3. Receives and sorts incoming correspondence via paper or email.
4. Provides professional service to current employees, new hires, as well as, departing staff in regard to classification, pay, performance, contracts, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
5. Provides various applications and human resources information to potential employees, applicants, inquiring public.
6. Maintains efficient and effective filing system to facilitate prompt retrieval verifies accuracy for audit ready.
7. Receives visitors phone calls email messages.
8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college and one (1) year of professional experience, preferably in human resources, OR satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with Personnel Code Rules, Positions Classification Plan, Pay Plan, Collective Bargaining contracts, and / or departmental policies and procedures.
2. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in a Human Resources position.
3. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience articulating human resources administration information in descriptive terms to others not versed in the personnel system.
4. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience reading and compiling information and data into reports.
5. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience using computer systems, software, templates, and / or other guides, and Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
6. Prefers at least four (4) years of experience utilizing proper composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
7. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience presenting information clearly, both orally and in writing.
8. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience handling confidential information.
Conditions of Employment
1. Requires the ability to pass the IDOC / IDJJ background check.
2. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
