REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must have an interest in working with senior adults.

2. Should be sensitive to the needs, interests, and abilities of senior adults.

3. Ability to relate well to individuals and maintain effective working relationships.

4. Responsible for visiting residents who are bed-bound or prefer not to participate in group activities.

5. Effective communication skills are required in both oral and written forms.

6. Must possess a friendly, patient, and compassionate demeanor.

REPORTING:

The Special Programming Activity Assistant will report to the Activities Director.

JOB DUTIES:

1. Visit residents unable to join group activities and those who prefer one-on-one interactions.

2. Provide various activities such as:

• Reality Orientation
• Art projects
• Music
• Daily devotion
• Playing games like board games, cards, Wiihab, etc.
• Reading to residents
• Assisting residents with nail care
• Engaging in discussions and conversations
• Providing sensory stimulation through scent, sound, tactile, and visual means
• Helping residents with letter-writing
• Teaching vision-impaired residents how to use a talking book machine
• Ordering books on tape from the Braille Institute Library

3. Maintain daily records of resident participation and responses.

4. Keep the Special Programming Bedside Log updated.

5. Attend all required in-services.

6. Direct residents needs to the appropriate departments.

7. Organize supplies neatly and maintain cleanliness.

8. Stay responsive and attentive to residents' needs.

9. Inform the Activity Director of any necessary supply needs.

10. Willingness to take on additional tasks as requested by the Activities Director or Administrator.
