Admiral Farragut Academy is Hiring an Athletic Trainer Near Saint Petersburg, FL

The High School Athletic Trainer plays a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes participating in various sports programs at the high school level. This position involves providing preventative care, emergency treatment, rehabilitation, and education to support the overall health and performance of student-athletes.

Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training required, Master's preferred. State licensure or eligibility is required. CPR/AED Certified. A minimum of 4 years of athletic training experience required. Hours are 1pm - 9pm or as needed for athletic events.

1. Injury Prevention:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive injury prevention programs tailored to the specific needs of individual sports teams.
  • Conduct pre-participation screenings to assess the physical condition and injury risk of student-athletes.
  • Educate coaches, athletes, and parents on proper warm-up techniques, conditioning exercises, and injury prevention strategies.

2. Injury Assessment and Treatment:

  • Evaluate and diagnose sports-related injuries, including sprains, strains, fractures, and concussions.
  • Provide immediate care and first aid for acute injuries occurring during practices or competitions.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for injured athletes, including rehabilitation exercises, therapeutic modalities, and taping/bracing techniques.
  • Coordinate with healthcare professionals, such as physicians, physical therapists, and orthopedic specialists, for advanced medical care and referrals as needed.

3. Emergency Response:

  • Serve as the primary responder to medical emergencies during athletic events, including assessing and managing life-threatening situations.
  • Maintain emergency action plans for each sports venue and ensure the availability of necessary medical supplies and equipment.

4. Rehabilitation and Return to Play:

  • Design and oversee individualized rehabilitation programs to facilitate the safe and timely return of injured athletes to full participation.
  • Monitor the progress of injured athletes, adjust treatment plans as needed, and provide ongoing support and encouragement throughout the recovery process.
  • Collaborate with coaches, athletic directors, and healthcare providers to make informed decisions regarding the clearance for athletes to return to play.

5. Health Education and Counseling:

  • Educate student-athletes on topics such as injury prevention, nutrition, hydration, mental health, and substance abuse.
  • Provide guidance and counseling to athletes regarding injury management, recovery expectations, and long-term health implications.
  • Promote a culture of wellness and safety within the athletic department through educational workshops, seminars, and resources.

6. Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for all student-athletes, including injury documentation, treatment logs, and clearance forms.
  • Coordinate with school administrators, coaches, and athletic trainers to ensure compliance with state regulations, athletic association guidelines, and school policies related to sports medicine.
