Steppingstone Inc. is Hiring a Cook Near River, MA

SUMMARY: The Cook works as an integral part of the Food Service Department. The Cook performs, but is not limited to the following duties: preparing daily meals, checking order deliveries and maintaining a safe and clean kitchen. When necessary perform CPR including Heimlich maneuver. This position requires a flexible schedule including 1stand 2nd shifts which will include weekends and holidays. The agency has the right to change shifts based on the needs of the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Position Specific Duties

  • Setting up, cleaning, and organizing workstations.
  • Preparation of ingredients for meals, washing of vegetables, chopping, and seasoning.
  • Responsible for the cooking and serving the daily breakfast, lunch and dinner meals.
  • Responsible for checking all orders delivered.
  • Handles, stores, and rotates products properly.
  • Maintain walk-in cooler and freezer in accordance with Board of Health regulations.
  • Assisting other cooks in preparing food or helping other food service team members when needed.
  • Responsible for picking up supply orders at the Food Bank.
  • Observe all health and safety requirements. 
  • Ability to climb three flights of stairs to deal with emergencies.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations by placing calls to Fire, Rescue, Police, and Medical etc.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Complete all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Perform program recordkeeping, filing, and the organization of vital documents.
  • Provide telephone coverage for the assigned program and direct calls to other programs as needed.
  • Participate in required supervisions staff meetings and trainings.
  • Participate and cooperate in any investigations conducted by internal and external agencies

Compliance Requirements:

  • Remain awake during your shift at all times.
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and update all licenses and certifications.
  • Adhere to program/project/department requirements and services.
  • Follow all reporting guidelines by deadlines including the completion of a Confidential Incident Report.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Cook staff must perform each essential function satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge/skill and/or ability required.

  • High School or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of cooking experience.
  • Serve Safe Certification required.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Required a valid driver’s license due to business-related travel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS: The work environment requirements are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.   • The work noise level is that of an average busy home.
  • Ensure safety through fire drills and emergency evacuations.
  • Ensure a safe workplace to reduce potential risk of violence.
  • Ensure a safe and clean program addressing and communicating any facility issues.
  • Observe all health and safety requirements including Tuberculosis (TB) screening.
  • Abide by the Hazard Communication policy and the disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Abide by the Blood Bourne Pathogens/Universal Precautions policy and procedure.
  • Adhere to all emergency evacuation procedures.

  • Require good vision (the ability to see) either with or without various assistive devices.

  • Some manipulative ability is required in carrying out applicable aspects of position responsibilities.
  • Position requires overall moderate/heavy physical effort.
  • Frequent climbing of stairs is required in carrying out applicable aspects of position responsibilities.
  • Ability to quickly move throughout the facility in carrying out applicable aspects of position responsibilities
  • Ability to quickly perform emergency-type actions as needed (Police, Fire, Medical, etc.)
  • Ability to climb three flights of stairs.
