Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
The Student Services Manager will manage the NBME assessment process and coordinate the disability services for all medical, graduate and professional graduate programs at USC, School of Medicine.
Duties to include:
  • Manages the SOMC NBME assessment support process for all students in medical, graduate, and professional graduate programs at the University of South Carolina, School of Medicine-Columbia (SOMC) (approximately 704 students).
  • Responsible for planning, coordination and implementation of disability services for all students at SOMC with physical, cognitive, health, attention, psychological, and other impairments as mandated by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) of 1990 and federal and state laws to ensure reasonable accommodations.
  • Coordinates with the Student Disability Resource center and the School of Medicine faculty to ensure appropriate management of the ADA process.
  • Maintains student records, compiles data on student progress, trends and usage of services. Trains and provide guidance to graduate assistants and temporary employees that proctor exams.
  • Advises Deans, Department Chairs, and other administrators on appropriate accommodations and works to resolve conflicts between students, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintains technology needs for the assessment of SOMC academic programs, including Blackboard, National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), and ExamSoft.
  • Collects, maintains, and analyzes exam data and student performance for faculty, accreditation reports and long-term planning.
  • Collaborates with faculty to publish exams and provide technical support to students on test days.
  • Provides support to faculty and course directors in organizing assessment materials, questions, and question categories.
  • Reviews university policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal law.
  • Demonstrates commitment to conduct business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations as established by FERPA, data privacy ethics, NBME and ADA.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field of expertise (such as Higher Education, Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, School Psychology, or Occupational Therapy) and 1 years’ experience OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field of experience(Education, Health Sciences, etc.) with at least 3 years of related and practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling, CRC, Social work , or other relevant certification, and experience providing services and accommodations for students with disabilities in higher education.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
This position requires strong critical thinking, attention to detail, communication skills both oral and written, as well as the ability to work independently while developing strong collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff in in academic programs at the SOMC. The individual must be able to exercise excellent professional judgment and discretion, making decisions on a regular basis that impact student welfare and the institution. Skills of using spreadsheets and data presentation are desirable. Required to conduct business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations.

Works in collaboration with faculty and students and relevant departments to ensure that ADA accommodations and other applicable laws as determined by the Student Disabilities Resource Center and/or the NBME are provided and coordinates with SOMC departments and main campus offices to implement reasonable accommodations in accordance to policy. Continuously evaluate and adjust accommodations based on student needs and progress. Provide personalized support and guidance to students with disabilities to help them navigate academic, social, and emotional challenges.
