Moffatt & Nichol specializes in waterfront, transportation, and economic development, infrastructure projects. We are actively looking for a Construction Inspector to join our Pensacola office either full time or 30 hours/week minimum.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Will monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for economic development, roadway, and utility construction projects of moderate complexity.
  • Provides general inspection on all construction labor and subcontracted tasks to ensure professional workmanship.
  • Recognizes basic construction or engineering problems, recommends changes to construction plans to meet field condition; makes field measurements of pay items and conducts limited materials testing; checks equipment; maintains and reviews comprehensive project records including daily diaries, materials notebooks, as-built plans, pay quantity records, progress schedules, work orders, and monthly estimates.
  • Frequent external contact with contractor personnel to schedule and coordinate project inspection and resolve problems; with local government and law enforcement agencies to explain work under construction and coordinate traffic control; with suppliers to monitor receipt of materials; with utility companies to coordinate relocation and installation; and with the public to provide information and resolve issues.
  • Frequent contact with Engineers and Surveyors to discuss and resolve field construction issues and to obtain technical guidance in specialty areas of engineering and inspections.
  • Monitors contractor’s operations to ensure compliance with contract terms and specifications.
  • Verifies lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using survey and field engineering equipment.
  • Assemble final records of construction.
  • In addition to inspection responsibilities, may be required to also provide inspection/project management, under the direction of a Construction Manager or designee.

Qualifications: 

  • 10 years minimum construction inspection experience, Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, preferred, but not necessary.
  • Valid driver’s License.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Construction related experience in the U.S. as a construction inspector. 
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Moffatt & Nichol uses E-Verify and employment is contingent upon the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and to present the required documentation at hire 

Physical requirements: 

The majority of work if field based, which may necessitate, navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Field work includes exposure to heat, cold or inclement weather. Ability to use standard office equipment.
