JOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and grow.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve months
EVALUATION: Annually, based on job performance, enthusiasm and effort
Essential Functions
- Consistent and punctual on-site attendance at the worksite is an essential job function.
- Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each day and for determining that all doors and windows are secured and all lights (except those left on for safety reasons) are turned off
- Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalk, driveways, and play areas (if elementary) neat and clean at all times
- Ability to handle mechanical functions of the building
- Maintains a regular service schedule on all motors, mechanical equipment, ballasts, lights
- Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity
- Shovels, plows, and/or sands walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as necessary
- Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are operating properly
- Raises and lowers the U.S. and Nebraska flag at the beginning and at the end of the work day
- Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture
- Clean corridors during the day as often as is required
- Scrubs and disinfects toilet floors daily, cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains
- Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice a year and more frequently if necessary
- Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation
- Cleans all chalkboards/whiteboards at least once a week
- Moves furniture and equipment within buildings as required for various activities as directed by the principal
- Makes such minor building repairs as he/she is capable
- Reports major repairs needed promptly to the building principal through maintenance request
- Performs such yard keeping chores as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe, attractive condition
- Reports immediately to the building principal any damage to school property
- Collaborates with other custodians and building staff to proactively address building issues
- Communicates effectively with colleagues and reports daily to the building supervisor
- Assists other custodians as needed (or applicable) with special building events such as music programs, community functions with the building, or athletic contests in the gym
- Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his attendance required by the principal
- If an elementary building, performs weekly playground inspections (with paperwork and maintenance as required)
- Performs weekend building check including freezers, HVAC, doors, and lights
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors
- High school diploma/GED
- Position will occasionally require lifting 60 pounds or more
- Self-directed - can organize own time and tasks
- Ability to read and follow directions on cleaning supplieS
