First aid/CPR certificate desired not required
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator; Special Education Teacher RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Building Administrator, Special Education Teacher JOB GOAL: Assist the teacher in providing education and instruction to students TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: School year only, 30 hours/week EVALUATION: Special Education Teacher and Building Administrator NOTE: This is a generalized job description. Specific duties and responsibilities vary, depending on the assigned school. Applicants should be aware of the specific functions of the position prior to employment.Essential Functions
Consistent and punctual "on site" attendance at the worksite is an essential job function
Works with small groups of students, as directed by the teacher, to reinforce directions or tutor in needed areas
Listens to students read, and reads to students
Helps students with make-up work
Assists in individual or group activities, games, flash cards, computers, etc.
Assists students in interpreting and following directions of teacher
Drills - to reinforce any skill the teacher has taught
Types, draws, writes & duplicates instructional material
Makes educational games and aids
Alerts teacher to needs of students
Assists teacher in checking progress of individualized study projects
Supervises lunchroom, playground, halls, classrooms & other assigned activities
Prepares bulletin boards, charts & graphs
Reserves films & other instructional media
Assist with loading & unloading of special education buses
Transfers and positions students with physical disabilitiesAssists when emergencies arise
Does miscellaneous typing & filing
Inventories books, materials & equipment
Assists when emergencies arise
Performs other delegated responsibilities assigned by teacher or administrator
OTHER REQUIREMENTS (Intellectual, Sensory)
Effective oral and written communication skills
Skills in organization, leadership and human relations
Visual and auditory skills for dealing with students
