In this role, the Staff Accountant is in charge of preparing journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance and general ledger reconciliation. During the monthly close, various aspects of internal reporting will be under your responsibility. You will lend your skills in assisting the development and implementation of accounting policies. Also, you will participate in compliance, interact with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and review schedules for the reporting processes. This position is very complex as it plays a part in the production of Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. This Newport News, Virginia area-based position is a challenging, multi-faceted opportunity to work for a company that recognizes and rewards hard work.What you get to do every day- Thorough experience with month end balance sheet account reconciliations- Ad hoc reporting and performing special projects upon request- Maintain, implement, and adhere to internal controls while ensuring that accounting procedures comply with GAAP- Maintain depreciation, fixed asset ledgers, and reconciliation- Assemble analyses for monthly balance sheets and income statements for management reporting- Periodic maintenance and reconciliation of journal entries- Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations which include, but are not limited to, cash, prepaid expenses, and payroll- Conduct month end close and compose journal entries with minimal supervision- Manage intercompany billings, transactions, and reconciliation- Survey and organize various financial data, reporting it in a useful and understandable manner- Partake in various department-wide initiatives- Manage schedules for capital lease and monthly payments- Support the month end, quarter end and year end closing process by preparing monthly financial close workbooks
