YWCA New Britain is Hiring a Maintenance Technician Near New Britain, CT

Maintenance Technician

Reports to: Facilities Director

Department: FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay: $18.00-$20.00

Provisional Period: 12 months

Position Summary:

As a member of the YWCA New Britain, and the maintenance department team, this position performs preventive and renovate maintenance of the building, grounds, facilities, equipment, and property as assigned by the Facilities Director. Candidate should support the YWCA mission: eliminating racism & empowering women; demonstrate cultural competency and the ability to work with diverse populations.

Performance Standards:

* Perform maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds at facilities, including HVAC, carpentry, basic electrical, plumbing, and painting.

* Report malfunctions to Facilities Manager for action.

* Repair and treat structures such as floors, sinks, walls, roofs, and waxing floors.

* Assist with monthly inspections- fire-sprinklers systems.

* Move and assist in moving furniture and equipment at YWCA and off sites.

* Maintain all tools and equipment- changing all HVAC filters

* Paint walls, changing ceiling tiles, and trim

* Assist with responsibilities for emergencies and after hours’ coverage, and filling in for vacation time for other maintenance employees.

* Assist with room set-up for meetings and events.

* Assist with custodial duties as assigned.

* Perform other related duties as assigned by the Facilities Director.

· Attend staff, personnel, and professional development meetings assigned, including, but not limited to, YWCA and staff meetings.

· Reliably meet deadlines.

· Manages time and attendance well.

· Follows the organizations policies and procedures.

· Follows safety policies, procedures, and regulations.

· Follows legal and ethical standards related to job responsibilities.

· Demonstrates proficiency in the necessary common and technical knowledge areas required for the position.

· Maintain and care for supplies and equipment of the YWCA.

· Accept other responsibilities and projects as assigned.

· Increases personal knowledge about individual, interpersonal and institutional levels of racism by actively participating in trainings and organizational or community-based committees.

· Seeks input from program participants of various backgrounds on program environment and program elements.

· Supports co-workers and work with diverse teams utilizing best practices to inspire better thinking and solutions.

Work Environment:

This position operates in settings which could include office, working outdoors in heat or cold, among other settings and conditions not specifically described. Use of commercial cleaners’, regular use of power tools and periodic use of heavy equipment.

Qualifications Required:

Education- GED

Experience: 2-5 years, minimum of two years’ experience preferred, in the field of general repair.

Skills- painting, basic wiring, plumbing, carpentry, general knowledge of various types of equipment used in the building trades

Ability to work with little or no supervision, given proper instructions.

Licenses; Driver’s Licenses

Ability to do heavy lifting 50 lbs.

Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff and vendors.

Qualifications Preferred

Education-High School / Trade school

Experience 2-5 years Maintenance Technician-

Skills- HVAC-plumbing-basic wiring.
