Culinary Specialist

Job Overview:

This individual will coordinate the menu, and food orders, help develop standardized recipe practices, implement safety procedures, oversee the activities of workers and/or service employees, including volunteers, help prepare and package meals daily, work with local produce/farmers and implement innovated ways to develop and served Lamoille County Elders. Engaged in all food operations. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but MOWLC may identify other duties of the job.

General Responsibilities:

  • Understands and follows standardized recipe practices.
  • Ensure a safe working environment throughout the facility for all employees.
  • Monitoring employee productivity and provides suggestions for increased service or productivity.
  • Responsible for the supervision of day-to-day activities of subordinates and assigns responsibility for specific work or functional activities as directed by on-site management.
  • Responsible for orientation and training of employees.
  • Performs daily assignments in addition to supervisory duties that will include prepping, cooking, and baking.
  • Assist with fundraising events.
  • Works with recipients to ensure satisfaction in such areas as quality, this may include meal delivery on occasion and developing surveys.
  • Takes an interest and initiative in the development of the food service team and overall program.
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Maintains critical control of operations and responsible for activities to ensure opening, closing, and daily procedures are completed.

Experience/Knowledge:

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
  • Culinary School or at least 3-5 years of successful related work experience.
  • Serve Safe Certified within six months of hire date.
  • Two letters of reference showing longevity and commitment from other employers.

  • Maintains a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule helpful.
  • Must comply with any dress code requirements.

  • Must be able to coordinate the routine responsibilities of staff and resources.
  • Presents self in a highly professional manner to others and understands that honesty and ethics are essential.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with all co-workers, vendor representatives, supervisors, managers, customers and client representatives.
  • Ability to provide clear directions and respond accordingly to employees. Ability to use a computer.

Physical Requirements:

  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Significant walking or other means of mobility.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
