City of Monona is Hiring a Part-Time Police Officer Near Monona, WI

The City of Monona is accepting applications for part-time police officers. Qualified candidates must be a currently employed as a Wisconsin police officer with a minimum of 3 years’ experience. This recruitment is open to all qualified applicants and will establish an eligibility list from which an appointment to fill a vacancy will be made. This position will be open until filled.

Applications must be complete and submitted online. A resume and cover letter answering the following specific questions must be attached:

The following documents must also be submitted with your application:
  • High School diploma, GED, or HSED or transcript.
  • Transcripts of any college credits you have earned from an accredited institution
  • Your WI Law Enforcement Certification document. (Located in Acadis)
  • Copy of your Birth Certificate
Chosen candidates will be required to successfully complete a Chief's interview, a Police & Fire Commission interview, drug screening, and a background investigation. Employment will be at-will.
 
The 2022 part-time officer wage is $33.13 per hour. No other benefits, such as sick leave, vacation, health insurance etc., are available for this position.The following duties are normal for the position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Conducts routine preventive patrol in designated areas of the City; patrols residential/business areas for detection of violators; initiates contacts with both business operators and residents; maintains an open line of communication within the community;
  • Responds to calls for police service;
  • Provides information and/or assistance to the public (this is a community service-oriented community)
  • Investigates traffic accidents, enforces traffic violations, conducts driver intoxication investigations, conducts criminal and non-criminal investigations, performs surveillance, conducts follow-up investigations;
  • Enforces Federal, State and local laws;
  • Prepares written reports, forms, and other documents as required;
  • Testifies in criminal and civil court proceedings; gives depositions.
The following are minimum qualifications for this position. Those who do not meet the minimum qualifications will be rejected from consideration.
  • Must be a currently employed full time WI police officer; 
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years patrol officer experience;
  • Must be at least 21 years of age;
  • Must be a citizen of the United States;
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent;
  • Must have completed a minimum of 60 college credits.
  • Must have a valid Wisconsin driver's license (or the ability to obtain a Wisconsin driver's license if one is not held), along with a good driving record;
  • Must have no felony convictions (unless pardoned);
  • Must have no domestic abuse convictions;
  • Must have the ability to speak and understand the English language;
  • Must be in good physical condition;
  • Must have vision correctable to 20/20.

Qualified candidates must possess the following knowledge and abilities:

  • Must have the ability to possess a firearm and skills to safely handle a firearm;
  • Must be able to react quickly and effectively to stressful situations;
  • Must have the ability to exercise discretion when investigating complex and/or sensitive crimes.
  • Must have knowledge and skills in operating computer systems;
  • Must have the ability to handle several tasks simultaneously;
  • Must have the ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment;
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Must be able to work different shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
