City of Monona is Hiring a Youth Program Facilitator Near Monona, WI

Under the general direction of the Recreation Supervisor and the Recreation Coordinator, the Youth Program Facilitator helps plan, coordinate, and lead indoor and outdoor activities for K-5th grade students, with and without disabilities, in the City’s afterschool and recreational programs. The Youth Program Facilitator is responsible for the supervision, safety, and well-being of students in the programs and also provides support and accommodations to those children with disabilities.
This is a limited-term (school year) position ending June 6, 2024. We offer flexible scheduling with a max of 30 hours a week. Hours will be between Monday-Friday, 2:30pm-5:45pm (additional shifts beyond these hours available at times). Shift hours and days can be flexible with school/class schedules. Your weekly schedule and hours are based on the availability you provide us with.
This position provides valuable professional experience for college students interested in becoming a child psychologist, therapist, psychiatrist, social worker, early childhood educator, an elementary or middle school teacher, naturalist, behavioral specialist, interpreter, camp director, outdoor recreation manager, environmental educator, etc.
  • Three-month evaluation- with potential for a $.25 cent raise at the end of three months
  • Six-month evaluation- with potential for a $.25 cent raise at the end of six months 
  • Nine-month bonus- with potential for $300 for over 470 hours worked at the end of nine months
The following duties are normal for the position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Effectively manage assigned group of children to facilitate socialization, participation and interaction of children with the goal of fostering the positive development of each child and the group.
  • Build a positive relationship with each participant in your care, and foster positive connections between participants.
  • Provide accommodations, and collaborate with other program staff to ensure active participation of all participants, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Emotional and Behavioral Disorders, Cognitive disabilities, etc.
  • Provide adaptations based on individual needs and utilize positive behavior guidance techniques.
  • Plan, implement and document successful educational, recreation, youth leadership, and community service and arts activities with school-aged children.
  • Record and submit daily attendance records, and any other required documents to Afterschool Program/Recreation Coordinator.
  • Communicate with program families daily with important information regarding program participants.
  • Inspect on a daily basis all facilities, equipment, and supplies and be sure all are accounted for and put away and cleaned at the end of each day.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures in a proactive manner, making the safety and care of children your primary focus.
  • Manage emergencies, unusual circumstances and behavior.
  • Embody the core development goals: Physical Literacy, Environmental Literacy, and Social Literacy.
  • Conduct yourself as a professional and representative of the City of Monona with school staff, parents, children and anyone else with whom you come into contact in your role.
  • Adhere to policies regarding Covid-19 prevention such as mask wearing, and hand washing, if necessary.
  • Actively participate in all aspects of staff development, including weekly supervision, weekly team meetings, pre-service training, and an additional training during the school year.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  1. Must be at least 18 years of age 
  2. Must have a High School Diploma
  3. Current certification in Red Cross First Aid/ CPR/AED (or within 3 months of employment)
  4. Pursuing a degree in a related field such as Child Development, Education, Recreation Management, or other related field strongly preferred
  5. Must be able to work at least 4 or up to 8 hours a day, Monday through Friday
  6. Experience working with school-age children, providing behavioral support, and leading recreation activities a plus
  1. Excellent communication skills – this position serves as an ambassador for the City and must engage the public in a respectful, professional and positive manner 
  2. Must be able to withstand frequent standing, walking and sitting during the day and participate in active recreation programs with children
  3. Ability to plan, facilitate, and carry out age-appropriate activities with school-age children
