Minnehaha Academy seeks a full-time Middle School Counselor for the 2024-2025 school year.
Responsibilities include:
Provide short-term individual and small-group counseling about behavioral, emotional, social, and mental health issues
Participate in the creation of learning plans for students in need of accommodations
Consult with parents/guardians, teachers, support staff, administrators, medical professionals and community mental health personnel
Provide guidance and professional development opportunities to faculty and staff on topics such as behavior management, recognizing mental health or learning challenges in the classroom, building classroom community and growing resilience in children
Participate on the Middle School student support team by developing support interventions and serving as a point person for implementing support services
This role will have supervisory responsibilities of students
Skills include:
Ability to establish strong and positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
Strong leadership, collaboration, organization, and communication skills to lead a comprehensive school counseling program
Strong understanding of educational and psychological evaluation processes, career readiness standards, standardized testing, and data analysis
Knowledge of and ability to engage external resources, including mental health and community-based resources
Ability to facilitate dialogue between students, families, and school personnel to ensure that student needs are addressed proactively and positively
Qualifications include:
Previous experience working with Middle School students in a school setting
Previous experience in developing strategic goals and managing complex processes
Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
State Licensure required
Ability to relate the Christian faith to learning and life
