Description

Reporting to the Senior Production Manager, the Production Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing the production process and coordinates all activities related to the production of our food products including the operation of all production lines and the quality of their output. The production manager ensures compliance with internal and external regulatory bodies through familiarity and implementation of food safety policies, procedures and regulatory criterion including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated preventive controls including hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP).

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures the production line runs smoothly and effectively; provides process improvement to daily operations and monitors production to resolve issues.
  • Works collaboratively with the senior production manager to ensure the company’s key initiatives are achieved and guides the team on decisions related to reducing technical stoppages in equipment and areas of common occurrence.
  • Facilitates and oversees the proper and efficient set up of all production equipment for packaging and production lines.
  • Supports the process safety management (PSM) and risk management program (RMP).
  • Assists with the performance of the Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) of all newly installed or modified equipment. Tracks the status of recommendations and completion as identified in the performance of the PSSR. Periodically audits the PSM program.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manages production employees and is responsible for their performance management and hiring. Provides regular progress reports to senior production manager.
  • Maintains personnel structure and staffing levels to meet Company needs. Schedules production employees as needed in accordance with Company policy and the department’s labor budget.
  • Tracks employee absenteeism and timekeeping. Creates and enforces department attendance policies in alignment with Company policy. Ensures accurate and timely hours submission to HR for payroll and reporting. Communicates schedules to employees. Monitors employee overtime.
  • Ensures effective employee relations within the framework of our core values. Provides employee training, coaching and development. Makes sound employment decisions in line with Company policy. Resolve employee issues through problem resolution.
  • Balances quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas. Works to continuously improve in all areas.
  • Promotes workplace safety. Understands and adheres to the Company’s Accident Prevention Program. Performs investigations arising from occupational safety reports and submits analysis and reports to human resources.
  • Participates with the Company’s management team to build meaningful orientation and training programs for employee development.

Work Environment :

  • Typical of a production work setting but may spend some time in office setting.
  • Exempt position estimated to work approximately 2,500 hours per year, subject to change with business needs.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will be regularly communicating by telephone, and in person, and must have the ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. The employee must be able to operate a motor vehicle unassisted.

While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly required to use oral communication skills; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform tasks as assigned; work under deadlines; and interact with managers, staff, and others encountered in the course of work.

Qualifications


  • 8 years of manufacturing experience, leading production teams, and continuous process improvement.
  • 3 years of food manufacturing/production
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills required both internally with local team and senior management and externally with vendors, suppliers, customers.
  • Strong leadership, influencing and mentoring skills; collaborator and builder with a bias toward action.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; logic and fact-based decision maker.
  • Working knowledge of refrigeration systems
  • Working knowledge of supervision including performance evaluations, corrective action, and scheduling.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, autonomously and in a team setting.
  • Experience in conflict resolution.
  • Possess excellent cultural sensitivity skills.
  • Willingness to learn and accept feedback for continuous growth.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, possess a valid Washington Driver’s License and be insurable.
