2023 - 2024 School Year

Position : Bus Driver - 4.25 Hours - Multiple Positions

Location : Transportation Garage

Hours : 4.25 hours - Approximate Report time : 6 : 30 am - 8 : 30 am & 2 : 00 pm - 4 : 15 pm

Rate of Pay : As per adopted salary schedule (Starting rate : $20.77 per hour)

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.
• Completion of satisfactory pre-employment drivers training program, basic and advanced bus drivers education program.
• Valid Class B Ohio Commercial Drivers License with school bus and passenger endorsements. Random drug screening as mandated by federal laws.
• Must adhere to US DOT 49 CFR Part 40 Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs.
• Must have a five years continuous driving record.
• Be physically qualified as determined by an annual physical examination.
• Record of good attendance and strong work ethic.
• Evidence of good moral character as established in section 3301-20-03 of the Ohio Administrative Code.
• Willingness to participate in future training.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate.

General Description

Is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of school pupils within the guidelines of the State of Ohio and the policies established by the local Board of Education, maintains discipline on the bus, promotes good public relations by neat appearance, proper attitude, and appearance of the school bus.

Essential Functions

• Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens.
• Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
• Obeys all traffic laws.
• Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
• Maintains a conducive environment on the school bus that promotes respect, responsibility, preparation and safety.
• Maintains discipline when students are on the bus and reports disciplinary infractions to the proper authority.
• Keeps assigned bus clean inside. The district will be responsible for keeping the outside of the bus clean. Driver is to keep the front and rear windows clean at all times.

When a spare bus is issued; the bus is to be swept, fueled and all windows and doors closed.

• Keeps assigned schedule. Driver is to carry accurate timepiece on the bus. Driver will report to the point of departure 15 minutes before a field trip.
• Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects. Driver is to be at the bus 15 minutes before the start of his / her first daily run.
• Notifies the proper authority in case of a mechanical failure or serious delay.
• Discharges students only at authorized stops.
• Exercises responsible leadership during out of district trips. Driver is to be in charge.
• Transports only authorized students.
• Lifts preschool and special needs students (up to 60 pounds) as needed.
• Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
• Completes all reports as requested.
• Enforces regulations against the use of tobacco and eating on the bus.
• Routes are not to be changed without approval of the Transportation Supervisor.
• Drivers are to read the bulletin board daily.
• Prompt attendance at all paid meetings is required unless excused by the Transportation Supervisor.
• Maintains accurate routing information for the bid route.
• Communicates as needed with all staff to ensure a team approach to problem solving.
• Accesses and responds to electronic communication (i.e., website, email, voice mail,etc.) daily.
