Admissions Counselor
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary:
This position is located in Grand Junction, Colorado, the Admissions Counselor is responsible for the recruitment, admission and enrollment of new first time and transfer students to Colorado Mesa University (CMU) and CMU Tech.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.Other related duties may be assigned.
Responsible for assigned recruiting territory, including
•recruitment travel
•maintaining comparative territory tracking records
•identifying demographic trends
•building relationships with the schools and Community Based Organizations within their assigned territory
•facilitating contact though e-mail, web, telephone, visits, direct mail
•maintaining admission and scholarship lists for recruitment purposes
Responsible for setting recruitment goals for an assigned territory.Must be innovative and entrepreneurial in territorial programming.
Participates in all team opportunities by contributing updates, ideas and potential improvements to recruitment and enrollment tactics.
Must be aware of the cost effectiveness of recruitment activity.
Participates and contributes to the organization of special programs such as Mesa Experience Visitation programs, New Student Orientations, and other recruitment events.Makes presentations and disseminates information at these, and other events.
The counselor works with Admission leadership to plan territory travel to local, regional and out of state territories and schedule high school and community college visits and activities, as well as the time, resources and energies within the scope of other recruitment initiatives planned throughout the year to affect an overall increase in the enrollment in their recruitment territories.
The Admissions Counselor helps develop and deliver presentations and communicate with perspective students using email and other media and collateral to affect, not only their individual territory, but the collective group of prospects.
The counselor shall perform preliminary financial aid, scholarship and career counseling to the prospective student as well as counseling with parents, high school and college counselors about admission to both CMU and CMU Tech. The counselor is responsible for understanding the differing admission criteria for both CMU and CMU Tech and must be able to interpret and apply this information when communicating with prospective students concerning the likelihood of admissibility.
The counselor is responsible for handling individual complaints, disputes and grievances from prospective students, parents, high school counselors and others related to the admission process and is expected to do so tactfully and professionally while considering university policies, waiver of normal application fees, and all elements that contribute to increased enrollment and student retention.The counselor is the visible presence and representation of CMU and CMU Tech.
Assists students with advising and course registration
Able to travel frequently and work evenings and weekends, as needed.
Travel to the CMU campus for team trainings and recruitment-related events, such as Mesa Experience visitation programs, tours, or visiting groups
Applies computer technology for the efficient functioning of the Admissions Office, including Microsoft Office Suite
Serves as liaison to, and works closely with, other CMU offices to increase collaboration and to determine needs and resources for recruitment activities.These activities particularly relate to programming for the recruitment and retention of all students, with particular emphasis on multicultural and other students of diverse background.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must possess any sight abilities required to operate a motor vehicle.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
•Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
•Demonstrated ability to communicate with a broad audience including direct communication and public speaking in front of a large audience
•Strong ability and enthusiasm in promoting and encouraging individuals to further their education
•Proven ability to multi- task with critical deadlines with minimal or no direction
•Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license by date of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
•Master's degree from an accredited institution
•One-year experience in a public speaking role
•One year of experience networking and the ability to relate to individuals from a variety of circumstances
•One year of experience in the area of higher education admissions, program planning, and recruiting.
Bi-Lingual in Spanish.
