Job Overview:

The Linde On-Site Air Separation Plant Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Ferndale, WA plant location.

This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires an employee to be proficient in air separation plant technology (candidate will be trained) and have knowledge / aptitude in mechanical systems, electrical systems, instrumentation, and process operation controls. The Plant Technician must be self-motivated and demonstrate initiative in resolving issues, planning and completing required maintenance, and managing site operations. The technician must be on call and able to respond as needed (paid weekend on call; rotating schedule). Occasionally, overnight travel may be required for training and/or plant support activities. Travel / daily commuting time is paid. The technician must ideally live within a 45-minute commute to their home plant(s); a one-hour commute is the maximum acceptable distance. Various trainings will be provided in categories such as, but not limited to, safety, process technology, equipment operations, maintenance practices, and project management. Scope:

The employee in this role solves field site issues and is responsible for the plant maintenance, troubleshooting/repair, and production at the site. The plant is located on a customer location. The technician has primary responsibility for their assigned plants and must be able to produce results with minimal supervision. The technician is supported by region management, lead technicians, engineers, sales representatives, and several other business disciplines. The technician will travel to support locations outside the assigned area and may be asked to assist in the training and development of other individuals. The technician makes decisions, which require coordination of interrelated tasks. The employee develops conceptual solutions to moderately difficult, non-routine issues/problems and provides planning guidance and technical leadership for various projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all safety, quality, and compliance activities at each plant location.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibrations on a variety of process equipment including, but not limited to, centrifugal, screw, and reciprocating compressors, gas analyzers, instruments/transmitters, electrical/PLC equipment, and pneumatic control valves.
  • Manage own time to meet operations goals and to complete planned & unplanned maintenance tasks for assigned plants, which includes troubleshooting, diagnosing, and solving plant problems.
  • Coordinate contractors and resources, both internal and external to Linde, to support activities, audits, and all administrative requirements for the plant.
  • Maintain or improve plant production and efficiency.
  • Manage time to complete self-guided training assignments in Linde’s web-based training database; self-study is also expected to be completed to advance comprehension of all aspects and responsibilities of the position.
  • Occasionally assists or directs the training and development of new employees.

Working Conditions:

In addition to being able to sit, stand, climb, walk, read, talk, see and hear; to perform the essential functions of this job an individual must be able to do the following additional activities:

  • Drive a service pickup truck up to 1 to 2 hours per day and up to 8 hours on occasion.
  • Perform office work requiring sitting at the computer and other administration duties 1 to 3 hours per day.
  • Walking on flat, uneven surfaces, and areas of crushed stone/gravel is done on a daily basis.
  • Bending, stooping, and working from just above the ground to 6-foot elevation
  • Use of stairs and ladders for elevated work. Use of fall protection equipment.
  • Lifting 5 to 15 lbs loads is performed daily.
  • Lifting 15 to 45 lbs loads is done on an intermittent basis.
  • Lifting over 45 to 75 lbs is done occasionally.
  • Upper body work activities, including using wrenches, hammers, and similar tools
  • Use of power tools/equipment such as drills, grinders, pumps, etc.
  • Use of fingers/fine manipulation (e.g. instrumentation calibration)
  • Normal work week of 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
  • On call for plant issues during off hours. Paid weekend on call; rotating schedule. Company provided cell phone, laptop, Wi-Fi hotspot, and service truck.
  • Plant performance is highly reliant on the effort put forth by the employee to learn, to actively maintain, and to prepare for planned and unplanned maintenance activities.

Qualifications:

  • High School degree required
  • Associate degree in a technical field preferred
  • 2 - 5 years of operations experience highly desirable in many of the following fields:
  • Air separation or similar complex process control function
  • General “hands-on” maintenance of industrial equipment
  • Compressors and compressor maintenance
  • Industrial Mechanical
  • Industrial Electrical or Electrician
  • Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC)
  • Instrumentation and controls
