Lakestate Industries is Hiring a Direct Care Worker Near Escanaba, MI

Job Overview:

Does the idea of making a difference in the lives of others bring you joy? Do you believe the power of one person truly making a difference? Then you might be just the person we are looking for! We are looking for people to help care for a 41 year old male restricted to a wheelchair live as independently as possible. We would love to hire people with experience, but we are willing to train the right person.

Duties:

  • Assist individuals with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Prepare meals and ensure dietary requirements are met.
  • Providing assistance/companionship by participating in activities such as: crafts, playing games, movies, going to community events.
  • Communicating with other staff/manager regarding any medical changes, emergencies, daily occurrences, etc.

To sum it up - The direct care staff are responsible for assisting and supporting one individual restricted to a wheelchair. Duties include cleaning, cooking, assisting with personal care, socializing, and participating in outings/activities. The candidate must have compassion to work with individuals with disabilities and must be comfortable with direct care, administering medications, and operating a vehicle. You are a part of a team that must work well together to ensure the individuals needs and goals are met.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must pass criminal background check.
  • Ability to adhere to Recipient Rights guidelines while respecting the dignity and rights of the individual being served.
  • Able to complete Adult CPR/First Aid Training. (Required every 2 years).
  • Able to perform the individual's needs/duties.
  • Able to communicate expressively and receptively in order to follow individual plan requirements-specific emergency procedures specified by parent/legal guardian, and report on activities performed.
  • Preferred qualities include excellent communication skills, positive energy, creativity, high personal integrity, and cleanliness.

COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES: As part of our work Training and job placement we have developed many community based training sites. Work training helps develop employable work skills, as an individual is exposed to more work opportunities, they will also develop more work skills to bring with them to community employment. When able, we design our work opportunities in the community so employees can experience working along side individuals without barriers to employment. Employees may be on a mobile crew that spends small amounts of time at the employment location doing necessary tasks such as janitorial work or on an enclave that spends extended periods of time at a location. Both mobile crews and enclaves are provided supervisory support from LSI job coaches. COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM: Our employment specialists, staffed at both our Escanaba and Marquette locations, look at an individual's strengths, skills and abilities, and needs in order to match these with a community employment opportunity which most closely fits an individuals desired employment outcome. Provides Individuals an opportunity to achieve economic independence and contribute productively to their community by obtaining and retaining employment. Is available on site to those employees who are starting a new job, experiencing difficulties on the job, or have had a recent change in their job.
