This position includes driving city-wide bus routes while maintaining the schedule and obeying traffic laws, providing information to customers regarding the Transit System, tracking passenger count data, and more!

JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION SCOPE
The Bus Operator drives 30- and 40-foot City Transit vehicles in a safe and conscientious manner on timed bus routes in Eau Claire and Altoona, providing direct passenger service.
A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement and no air brake restrictions is required. It is not necessary to have a CDL at the time of hire and on-the-job training is provided.
However, a Class B CDL permit must be obtained before starting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Drives in a safe manner.
Collects fares and sells tokens, tickets, and passes.
Drives routes according to published time points and turn sheets.
Safely restrains wheelchairs and electric scooters in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Calls out bus stops and complies with the other tenants of the ECT ADA Policy.
Provides public information to customers concerning routes, schedules, and how to use the transit system.
Takes passenger counts and tracks other data required by local, state, and federal regulations.
Participates in the training of new Bus Operators.
Attends on-going Bus Operator training as scheduled by Management.
Acts in a courteous manner to passengers and co-workers at all times.
Obeys traffic laws and follows the policies and procedures of the ECT Bus Operator's Manual and Discipline Code.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATIONS
A High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, etc.) is preferred.
Must possess or obtain (within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement and no air brake restrictions.
It is not necessary to have a CDL at the time of hire; however, a permit must be obtained before the Bus Operator may start work and a CDL must be obtained before the Bus Operator may drive.
If training is needed, it will be provided by the City.

This position is classified at the Mediumlevel, as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles.
Job requires lengthy sitting. There is potential for interaction with unruly clients and exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
There will be exposure to noise, heat, cold, humid, wet, and icy conditions. Lift on occasion 21 to 50 lbs., frequently 10 to 25 lbs.
