Primary Responsibilities

· Supervise all service department personnel, review, and analyze performance results and take any necessary corrective action to improve performance and increase profits

· Ensure quality work is being performed to customers' expectation levels

  • Day to day management of a service department that maintains and repairs a fleet of commercial medium and heavy-duty diesel trucks
  • Hire, train, orientate, and certify the appropriate number of technicians, and other support personnel in various areas of expertise
  • Able to recognize warranty failures, warranty claims and process of warranty recovery
  • Develop and manage relationships with vendors and customers
  • Assist management team in preparing an Annual Business Plan and Budget, adjust the plan dictated by current conditions
  • Sell labor and parts to achieve profit targets determined in business plan.
  • Responsible for ensuring DTNA annual service requirements are met

Duties

  • Responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair on all types of trucks and trailers
  • Assist technicians in diagnosis of customer mechanical problems, recommend and sell appropriate repairs
  • Road test and inspect vehicles upon completion
  • Accurately and efficiently diagnose complex engine conditions and make necessary repairs
  • Communicate effectively with peers and service team regarding those repairs
  • Quality control work performed to ensure maximum customer satisfaction
  • Assure that all paperwork, repair orders and supporting documents are accurate and complete and maintained in a secure fashion for processing
  • Follow factory and vendor warranty policies, guidelines, and procedures. Administer any policy adjustments in the best interest of the customer and for the company
  • Meet requirements for certifications as DTNA requirements, develop, implement, and promote service training
  • Maintain all necessary records relating to government regulations, OSHA, hazardous waste removal, and environmental policies/procedures
  • Create shop environment that assures, tool room, break areas, and storage lot, clean and free of any safety hazards.
  • Plan, initiate, and participate in weekly, monthly, quarterly team meetings and safety meetings
  • Responsible for ensuring proper payments are received before releasing vehicles to customers, and timely submission of warranty claims and collection.

Sales and Customer Relations

  • Create and maintain superior positive relationships with all customers; handle any customer complaints with courtesy and professionalism in an expeditious manner
  • Investigate and establish course of action for customer maintenance issues and problems
  • Know the local market potential, customers, vendors, and competition
  • Keep customers informed of any delays and progress in person, by phone or email.
  • Solicit additional service business by phone and personal contact on a regular basis. Develop and foster a relationship with the outside parts and service salesperson if applicable.

Financial Responsibilities

  • Review and compare monthly financials
  • Maintain productivity and efficiency reports; make necessary adjustments to achieve departmental goals
  • Counsel employees and do periodic performance reviews within company guidelines.
  • Assist in collection of past due invoices as needed
  • Handle all customer, employee, and vendor issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Review and expedite Work In Process (WIP)

Position Requirements

  • Consistent track record of successfully meeting and exceeding goals
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum 5-7 years of automotive/trucking management experience
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
  • Must be able to work in harmony with other department and corporate managers.
  • Must possess a good work ethic, a positive attitude, and be reliable
  • Experience with engine platforms such as Detroit, Detroit, and Cat
  • Company has an atmosphere that is driven by customer satisfaction, accuracy of diagnostics, and efficient repairs

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position can be physically demanding, may require lifting of 70 lbs. or more with assistance. Will stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, sit, grab, and feel. Will be exposed to noise, dust, fumes, vibration, paint, and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
