The Environmental Educator proposes, creates and presents programs for children and adults, explains nature preservation and restoration, and related environmental issues facing the District. Participates in defining educational goals of the division. Proposes, creates, evaluates, revises and presents school and public programs, and stewardship related activities. Interprets natural history, and District natural resource management operations and policies for the public. Ensures use of most current effective education techniques, including technology and social media, and dissemination of accurate information. Implements and coordinates proper care of live education animals used in programs. Coordinates planning and execution of large-scale special events. Acts as a mentor to the environmental education instructors including training and coordination of program development and delivery. Performs lifting tasks up to 25 pounds. Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations. Performs tasks that will require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting. May be required to lead programs in inclement weather such as extreme heat, cold and rain.

Bachelor's Degree in environmental education or a related field. One year of experience in environmental education, interpretation and ability to plan and execute educational programs. Ability to obtain certification in the following areas: canoe instructor, water safety course, Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED. Education and communication skills necessary to plan and present education programs for large and small groups of children and adults, to interpret natural history and District natural resource management operations and policies to the public and to effectively coordinate volunteers. Ability to use a computer and possess knowledge of word processing software. Must possess valid driver’s license.
