City of Conyers, GA is Hiring a Code Enforcement Officer Near Conyers, GA

Job Summary

This position is responsible for code violations within the City and the compliance of zoning, subdivision, sign, business and occupational registration, tree and landscaping, International Property Maintenance Code and other codes. 

Essential Job Functions

Inspections

  • Adequately receives, researches, and responds to complaints regarding current code violations in a timely manner. 
  • Adequately interprets and enforces City of Conyers ordinances regarding Code violations. 
  • Properly and efficiently addresses quality of life issues as they pertain to ordinances and the International Property Maintenance Codes. 
  • Regularly conducts on-site inspections for soil erosion, parking, drainage, buffer and other requirements and code violations. 
  • Accurately issues appropriate citations for violation of codes. 
  • Accurately checks local businesses for compliance of business and occupation registration ordinance.
  • Accurately testifies at hearings regarding notices of violations or citations issued. 

Planning

  • Timely and efficiently, communicates with public concerning code requirements.
  • Properly scan construction documents and other related correspondence into paper-less document management system. 
  • Issues the appropriate building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and other permits, as required. 
  • Properly assist with the issuance and processing of Occupation Tax Registrations, as required. 

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Standard high school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of two years of formal education at an accredited college or university is preferred. 

Licenses(s): Valid Georgia Driver’s License.

Experience: Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Certification(s): Certified as an ICC Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector. This certification encompasses the enforcement minimum maintenance standards and conditions of all properties, buildings, and structures (residential and commercial) are safe, sanitary, and fit for occupation and use. To be obtained within first year of employment date. 

Level 1B Soil Erosion certification from Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission to be obtained within six (6) months of employment date. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Knowledge of: 

  • Thorough knowledge of business and occupational registration ordinance, subdivision regulations, sign ordinance, zoning ordinance, trees and landscaping, International Property Maintenance Code and other codes. 
  • Basic computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the Internet.
  • Thorough knowledge of geography and population patterns of the City of Conyers. 

Skill and Abilities:

  • Ability to use tact and firmness in dealing with contractors, developers, and the public concerning compliance with codes and ordinances. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with public officials, employees, contractors, developers, and general public. 
  • Ability to enter and operate a standard equipped pickup truck or automobile unassisted. 
  • Ability to negotiate uneven terrain unassisted. 

Equipment used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with a general office environment (copier, telephone, fax, etc.)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, climb ladders, and maneuver in low clearance area. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

The employee is frequently required to work from heights, work outside in extreme weather conditions, and work in environments containing dust, dirt and fumes.
