Retirement: TRS
Contract Work Year: 200 Days
Reports To: Coordinator, Literacy
Evaluation Instrument: BEI
Minimum QualificationsMaster’s Degree in Reading, Language Arts or Education required. Ten years’ experience in K-5 education required. Teacher leader and/or administrative experience preferred. Successful experience teaching literacy in K-5 curriculum required.
GOALResponsible for assisting the Coordinator in the developing, planning, managing, supporting, organizing, and implementing the literacy programs within the schools. The incumbent in this position assists with the overall administration and coordination of the Literacy programs in support of effective instructional practices, professional development, and communication of the overall literacy program.
Representative Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assists the Coordinator with all aspects of the literacy program.
  • Provides support in the development of a comprehensive effort to ensure that all teachers of Reading implement evidence-based practices in the development of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  • Provides literacy support, professional learning, and leadership development.
  • Assists with selecting and aligning literacy resources to the classroom.
  • Monitors school system data to determine trends and in turn develops and implements the most effective strategies for meeting and exceeding state and national student achievement goals.
  • Promotes effective instructional practices and communication that support high levels of instruction through the use of research-based data driven best practices, effective classroom consultation, and program evaluation.
  • Assists administrators and teachers in evaluating and improving classroom instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  • Assists in reviewing and evaluating results of District-wide assessments and recommends appropriate modifications to the literacy program.
  • Assists in the planning and development of District and school-wide instructional in-service programs for school leaders, teachers, aides, and parent volunteers to assist in raising the level of instructional performance and student reading proficiency.
  • Assists with the implementation of universal screening process.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures.
  • Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or credential as may be required for this position.
  • Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.
  • Follow federal and state laws, and Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
