D.C. Taylor Co. is Hiring a Human Resource Generalist Near Cedar Rapids, IA

JOB SUMMARY

Entry level Human Resource Generalist position. Aligns delegated human resource related activities to support current and strategic business goals. Helps to establish and implement short and long term HR policies and practices that promote positive employee/employer relationships. Maintains a high level of employee morale and provides assistance on all HR related issues. Provides support to the HR functional team leader on personnel matters and works closely with direct manager to ensure that all staffing issues are appropriately and legally addressed. The HR Generalist will maintain a high level of confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers applicant intake process; pre-screens applicants, schedules interviews, coordinates drug screens, and conducts background and reference checks
  • Schedules drug screens and DOT physicals for field personnel
  • Assists in the sourcing and recruitment of personnel
  • Administers policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook and ensures they are current, and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Maintains personnel files within applicable laws and regulations
  • Assists in delegated tasks regarding employee benefit programs including enrollments, terminations, and claims resolution
  • Organizes and processes the records for training and development in accordance with company procedure and policy
  • Assists in organizing documentation for FMLA, STD, LTD, etc.
  • Coordinates with hiring managers the negotiation, development, and delivery of verbal and written job offers
  • Creates new hire personnel files; maintains HR database
  • Assists in the compliance with COBRA guidelines by preparing specific documentation, as directed
  • Assists in coordination of benefit programs and communicates with service providers concerning routine administration of programs and employee inquiries
  • Assists with all other delegated tasks and provides continued support to co-workers, as necessary
  • Employee Relations
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment
  • Administers the compensation program; monitors the performance evaluation program and revises as necessary
  • Maintains through KTOS, the 260F and WTED grant funding applications, evaluations, and records
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform other related duties as required and directed

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of office and personnel administration procedures
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office, and a variety of other computer software applications
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree and three (3) to five (5) years of Human Resources experience, OR
  • A master’s degree in Human Resources Management and two (2) years of experience in the HR Field, OR
  • Seven (7) years of experience in the HR field, OR
  • Any similar combination of education and experience
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR/SPHR) certification preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Normal business hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday–Friday. On occasion, work assignments may require evening or weekend work and possibly travel. Occasional weekend travel and work associated with offsite meetings, seminars and training
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: 45,000 - 60,000 per year
