TITLE: Lab Technician
REPORTS TO: Nursing Manager
Medical Manager
JOB SUMMARY: Supports laboratory workflow in accordance with Ezra Medical Center’s policies and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains, prepares, and cleans the laboratory.
- Performs quality controls on in house tests every morning and as needed.
- Maintains laboratory logs.
- Assists in running diagnostic tests and informs provider of results in a timely fashion and of alert values promptly.
- Takes care of outsourced specimens according to lab requirements including but not limited to: spinning and separating specimens, matching specimens to requisitions, sending to appropriate labs for processing, placing specimens in the correct boxes for pick up, and checking that specimens were picked up accordingly. Ensures that results are transmitted and found in the patient’s EHR.
- Reports appropriate values to the Department of Health.
- Ensures that all in house testing results are in the patient’s chart.
- Processes NextGen Rosetta holding tank.
- Checks laboratory inventory for stock and expiration dates.
- Answers phone calls and respond to mail regarding laboratory related issues.
- Assists with Quality Assurance efforts.
The Laboratory Technician must be compliant and cooperate fully with Ezra Medical Center’s compliance program, including its standards of conduct and policies and procedures. Such compliance will be an element considered as part of the Laboratory Technician’s performance evaluation. Failure to comply with EMC’s written standards, which includes the failure to report any conduct or event that potentially violates legal or compliance requirements, will be met by the enforcement of disciplinary action, up to and including possible termination in accordance with Ezra’s compliance program.
