Assistant Systems Administrator

ANNOUNCEMENT NUMBER : 0524-32E

Kitsap Regional Library is looking for an enthusiastic individual for the Information Technology Department who is energized by providing excellent external and internal customer service.

We have a positive team that is highly motivated and very passionate about helping people. This position performs a wide range of technical and customer service functions.

This position reports to the Director of Information Technology & Facilities Maintenance.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under limited supervision, the Assistant System Administrator is a support resource for end-user computers, peripherals, network components and telephony devices throughout the Library system.

The ASA provides in-depth and advanced technical support services to Kitsap Regional Library staff and patrons. In addition, the ASA works on a variety of assignments associated with the management and maintenance of KRL's technology environment, as well as provide support to the rest of the IT Team.

Work is performed with considerable latitude for exercising judgment and initiative necessary to enable continued utilization of related systems.

This position is represented by the Washington Public Employees Association / UFCW local 365.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree in computer technology or equivalent combination of education and experience in an enterprise environment.

Experience must include installation and support of various operating systems and software packages, and diagnostics and troubleshooting of both hardware and software issues.

Valid Driver's License.

BENEFITS & SALARY

Employees regularly scheduled 20 or more hours per week are eligible to participate in our medical, dental, vision, basic life, AD&D, long term disability insurance plans, health reimbursement arrangement (HRA), as well as our employee assistance program.

Additionally, all employees regularly scheduled 20 or more hours per week receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.

Full-time employees earn 15 days per year of vacation leave over the course of their first year, 13 days of sick leave, and 1 personal day each year.

All accrued time off is pro-rated for part-time employees.

Kitsap Regional Library participates in the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Employees are automatically eligible for the plan if they work a minimum of 16.

25 hours per week (or 70 hour per month) during five months per year for two consecutive years.

Compensation range is $27.94 to $38.68 per hour DOE. Offers are determined based on required and relevant experience and in alignment with internal equity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Any of the following duties may be performed. These examples are representative and do not include all specific tasks an incumbent may be expected to perform :

DUTIES :

End User Support : Provide support to end users of computer and network technologies at KRL, including but not limited to the following :

  • Respond to end-user support needs submitted through the Help Desk ticketing system and provide over-the-phone and in-person support related to all aspects of technology usage within KRL.
  • Conduct account administration activities for the KRL network and for KRL enterprise applications and online services, including adds, moves, and changes to user permissions, access rights, group membership and other account management needs.
  • Provide technical support services for KRL's IP telephony system and related components.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve end-user problems with computers, software, and peripherals.

End User Devices and Peripherals : Provide installation, configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting of end-user devices and peripherals, including but not limited to the following :

  • Install and configure computer hardware, including desktops, laptops and other mobile devices, printers, projectors, and other peripheral devices.
  • Install and configure internal components on end-user computers.

Software and Applications : Provide installation, configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting involving software and applications for end-users, including but not limited to the following :

  • Install and configure computer software, including operating system software and applications, for end-user computing devices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software issues, including installation / configuration problems, drivers, feature deployment, and integration issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve end-user issues associated with accessing and using network resources and applications, including SharePoint, MS Office, Integrated Library Systems, Print Management Systems, and other systems.
  • Deploy operating system images for desktop and laptop computers, and research and compile driver sets for hardware components in end-user devices.

Network and Servers : Provide setup, configuration, installation, troubleshooting, and support services involving networking and server components, including but not limited to the following :

  • Work with others on the IT team and coordinate with other departments to configure and install network components, including switches, wireless access points and other network devices.
  • Provide telephone system support, including installation, operation, repair and maintenance on end-user telephone devices and telephony services.
  • Perform diagnostic and troubleshooting activities on network connectivity issues involving workstations, printers, network switches, wireless access points and other infrastructure components; and
  • Perform monitoring functions on computer / network systems.

Other duties :

  • Maintain and manage KRL technology data, including inventory information, site documentation, configuration information and software to support installation, maintenance, and repair of computer systems.
  • Work with and assist other KRL technical staff members in system administration, design and implementation activities associated with KRL's server and technology environment.
  • Coordinate technical support efforts with the KRL staff.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect staff, patrons, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Follow up on recent technical issues to see that we have met the customer needs.
  • May be assigned to work flexible hours or after hours at times to support IT operations and may occasionally be on-call for emergency support
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to other sites within the Kitsap Regional Library System.
  • Working knowledge of end-user support and end-user devices in an enterprise network environment including computer hardware and peripheral devices, operating systems, and application software including Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of server hardware and software, including Microsoft Windows Server, Hyper-V Hosts and Virtual Machines.
  • Working knowledge of IP networking, familiarity with security best practices, Active Directory, Group Policy, and print services.
  • Working knowledge of mobile device hardware and operating systems
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and occasionally be on-call for emergency support.
  • Ability to maintain skill levels in a fast-changing environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multicultural and diverse socio-economic setting
  • Ability to co mmunicate effectively verbally and in writing and communicate highly technical information clearly and concisely with Kitsap Regional Library customers.
  • Ability to read, understand, and implement information from highly technical documentation for various hardware and software components.
  • Ability to effectively organize workload, self-motivate, adapt to changing needs and direction and to support team decisions.
  • Ability to take direction and focus on the task at hand.
  • Ability to work in loud noise areas and in air-conditioned equipment rooms.
  • Ability to work eff ectively under pressure and respond appropriately to problem situations.

SCHEDULE

This is a full-time non-exempt position scheduled for 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the supervisor upon hire and may include weekends and evenings.
