Gallatin County is Hiring a Facilities Maintenance Technician Near Bozeman, MT

This position performs various duties related to the maintenance of County facilities and provides support as requested to the Parks Department. Maintains interior and exterior facilities at various County properties.. In general, should be familiar with building systems and safe work environments. Completes preventative and corrective work orders, orders necessary supplies and equipment for day-to-day operations and may contact service contractors for work. Position will also be responsible for opening of certain buildings each morning prior to employee arrival. This position reports to the Chief Operations Officer through the Facilities Manager and does not supervise other County personnel.

Each duty listed below makes up at least 20% of the job, and all other functions are included in Other Duties as Assigned. All duties below are essential functions unless otherwise indicated.

FACILITIES OPERATIONS

  • Maintains major facilities systems in County buildings. General knowledge of heating/cooling systems, plumbing and building maintenance is needed.
  • Maintains ancillary facilities in county buildings as requested. May repair furniture and property damage (e.g., flooring, drywall, windows, etc.) Responsible for receiving and properly storing deliveries as requested. May also assist in the moving of furniture or equipment as requested.
  • Performs preventative maintenance of tasks as scheduled in a timely manner. Monitors and troubleshoots facilities systems,routinely inspects tools and equipment, and coordinates preventative maintenance activities (e.g., performance testing, cleaning/oiling, sharpening, etc.) to ensure the equipment and tools are operating efficiently and safely.
  • Research ideas to achieve cost savings through energy conservation, alternative work methods, safety and any other measurable recommendations. Teamwork and supporting County-wide objectives are required.

PROJECT COORDINATION

  • May be required to prioritize work orders based on the nature and urgency of specific problems, available resources, and anticipated timelines.
  • Maintains proper levels of replacement items, such as: belts, filters, valves, motors, janitorial supplies, or any other items identified as inventoried. Maintains operational effectiveness by sharpening, fueling, calibrating, etc. various systems and tools.
  • Inspects the work of janitorial, landscaping and snow removal crews to ensure the quality and efficiency of work. Identifies performance problems, safety hazards, and quality deficiencies and refers to Facilities Manager as warranted.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by Chief Operations Offcier or Facilities Manager. This includes participating in special projects, occasionally filling in for other employees, participating in ongoing training, and a variety of other functions as needed. If the County Commission proclaims a local emergency due to an actual or threatened disaster such as an earthquake, fire, riot, flood, etc., County employees may be required to provide services during the emergency and for a subsequent period of assessment and recovery.

This position requires a general understanding of commercial building operations, energy efficiency, and ADA requirements. The position also requires experience in the safe and effective operation of power and hand tools, proper ladder safety, safe operations of lifts, and appropriate understanding and use of personal protective & safety equipment. Must be familiar with Microsoft computer programs and the use of email applications such as Outlook. This position must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work and the ability to work as a team member. The required knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of a technical program/apprenticeship or one (1) year of related work experience in one or more facilities systems (e.g., plumbing, security, electrical, carpentry, etc.). The incumbent must earn specialized certification and licensing in low-pressure boiler engineering within 2 years of hire. Other training/certifications may be required to be obtained as new or different systems are installed.
Licenses and Certifications: Position must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state of Montana or attain a Montana driver’s license within six months of hire and be insurable under the County’s liability policies.
