Gallatin County is Hiring an Activity Aide/Driver Near Bozeman, MT

This position is located in the Gallatin Rest Home and is responsible for coordinating and providing recreational activities to residents such as providing exercise, bingo, birthday celebrations, provides resident transportation to and from appointments and performs other related functions. The position reports to the Rest Home Activities Coordinator and does not supervise other personnel.

Each duty listed below makes up at least 20% of the job, and all other functions are included in Other Duties as Assigned. All duties below are essential functions unless otherwise indicated.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY IMPLEMENTATION

  • Plans, sets up, and coordinates scheduled daily recreational activities for Rest Home residents. Each Activity Aide coordinates multiple activities each day, and these may include games, pet visits and aviary care, sensory stimulation, exercise, bingo, birthday parties, crafts, and other activities to stimulate physical, emotional, social, and mental well-being of residents.
  • Adjusts schedule and/or adapts activities as needed based on observation of resident interest and ability, special requests from residents or families, and unanticipated circumstances.
  • Escorts residents to and from all activities, and transports residents within facility and out in the community based on nature of planned activity or resident/family request.
  • Conducts one-on-one visits with residents to deliver and/or read mail, coordinate pet visits, and provide companionship and social interaction for residents.
  • Continually observes residents for responses to activities, social needs, etc. and completes required charts for each resident indicating how often he/she attends an activity, level of engagement, response to activity, how long he/she attends an activity, etc. 
  • Consults with Activity Coordinator and other staff to maintain awareness of changes in a resident's dietary restrictions, care needs, etc., and to recommend approaches specific to each resident for use in activity planning and implementation.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all equipment, materials, and other items used in activity implementation, including cleaning the actual activity site (dusting, sweeping, etc.).
  • Must be physically able to maneuver residents in wheelchairs. 

RESIDENT TRANSPORATION

  • Assist preparing resident for transportation (coats, wheelchair, foot pedals, etc.)
  • Ensures the safety of the residents by property restraining the wheelchair on the lift and once inside the vehicle.
  • Properly restrain residents not in wheelchairs.
  • Obeys all traffic laws.
  • Recognizes current road conditions and drives accordingly.
  • Gather required documentation necessary for the resident's appointments. 
  • Effectively communicates the departure times to other staff members.
  • Notifies appropriate staff of any safety issues concerning the vehicle.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle inside and out and keep it fueled. 
  • Ensure that registration and insurance information is up to date. 
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor. This includes participating in special projects, occasionally filling in for other employees, participating in ongoing training, and a variety of other functions as needed. If the County Commission proclaims a local emergency due to an actual or threatened disaster such as an earthquake, fire, riot, flood etc., County employees may be required to provide services during the emergency and for a subsequent period of assessment and recovery.

This work requires knowledge of the physical, emotional, and mental needs, behaviors, and abilities of the elderly; activity planning; charting requirements; facility procedures; and knowledge in an area that can be shared with residents (e.g., art, music, cosmetology, crafts, pet care, etc.); skill in leading group activities; excellent communication skills; physically able to maneuver residents in wheelchairs, and the ability to operate a motor vehicle to transport patients.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience in a similar capacity is preferred but not required.

The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and some related work experience.

LICENSE:Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state of Montana and be insurable under the county’s liability policies. As a condition of hire, pre-employment drug testing may be done. 

NOTE: Must be willing to work in a smoke-free environment.

As a condition of hire, the final candidate will be required to successfully pass a criminal history check and background investigation.
