Gallatin County is Hiring a Facilities Maintenance/Grounds Worker Near Bozeman, MT

This position performs various duties related to the overall property maintenance at County Facilities with an emphasis on exterior grounds and upkeep/landscaping (Parks). Maintains all aspects of grounds- upkeep, landscaping, and grounds projects. Completes building maintenance as requested. May contact service contractors for service work. Position will also be responsible to maintain minimum inventories, opening of certain buildings each morning. This position reports to the Operations & Procurement Director through the Facilities Supervisor and does not supervise other County personnel.

Each duty listed below makes up at least 20% of the job, and all other functions are included in Other Duties as Assigned. All duties below are essential functions unless otherwise indicated.

FACILITIES OPERATIONS

  • Assist with Facility Building maintenance as requested.

  • Safely operate and maintain outdoor equipment: Toolcat, Bobcat, forklift, snowplow, snow blower, riding and push mowers, trimmers etc.

  • As required and as requested, may need to perform maintenance duties in the County’s Detention Center. Will maintain strict confidentiality regarding facilities, tools, projects and procedures and verifies the use and return of tools, supplies and equipment from project sites to ensure safety and security of the Detention Center. 

  • Responsible for receiving and properly storing deliveries as requested. May also assist in the moving of furniture or equipment as requested. 

  • Responsible to ensure equipment and tools are operating efficiently and safely.

  • Maintains, updates and catalogues MSDS, manufacturer manuals and new or altered drawings. 

  • Research ideas to achieve cost savings through energy conservation, alternative work methods, safety and any other measurable recommendations. Teamwork and supporting County wide objectives are a key to playing an important role in the Facilities Department.

 PROJECT COORDINATION

  • Prioritizes work orders based on the nature and urgency of specific problems, available resources, and anticipated timelines. Determines the need for and scope of contract services to ensure quality, timely and cost-effective maintenance services. Relays requests for necessary tools and replacement equipment to the Facilities Manager. Any purchase over $500 per item that is a nonemergency, must be pre-approved by the Facilities Manager or Operations and Procurement Director.

  • Maintains proper levels of replacement items.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by Facilities Manager or Operations and Procurement Director. This includes participating in special projects, occasionally filling in for other employees, participating in ongoing training, and a variety of other functions as needed. If the County Commission proclaims a local emergency due to an actual or threatened disaster such as an earthquake, fire, riot, flood, etc., County employees may be required to provide services during the emergency and for a subsequent period of assessment and recovery.This position requires knowledge of landscaping equipment and procedures, as well as a general knowledge of facility maintenance. The position also requires experience in the safe and effective operation of power and hand tools, vehicles, and proper use of personal protective equipment. Must be familiar with Microsoft computer programs and the use of email applications such as Outlook and have supervisory skills. This position must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work and the ability to work as a team member. The required knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, two (2) years of public or commercial grounds keeping/landscaping and one (1) year of technical training or work experience in one or more facilities systems (e.g., plumbing, security, electrical, carpentry, etc.).
