FIND OUT ABOUT THIS ROLE AND OUR MISSION TO CREATE POSITIVE CHANGE

The Community Specialist (CS) plays a pivotal role in supporting Plymouth residents within a team-oriented environment. The primary focus is on maintaining top-tier service delivery in alignment with Plymouth’s mission, emphasizing cultural proficiency, harm reduction, trauma-informed care principles, and the 'housing first' philosophy. The CS also undertakes the responsibility of educating new residents on building operations and expectations. Plymouth Housing is a non-profit organization with apartment buildings throughout King County helping the most vulnerable members of our community leave homelessness behind forever. At Plymouth, we’re not simply trying to get people off the streets. We provide supportive services like case management and health care so that our residents can thrive long-term. As part of our strategic vision, we are building internal behavioral health services and transforming our systems to address rapid growth and the changing needs of residents.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO BE DOING IN THIS ROLE AT PLYMOUTH HOUSING

  • Collaborate with tenants, building staff, and partners to identify and organize culturally relevant activities both within and outside the building premises.
  • Develop and maintain an activities calendar, overseeing the planning and execution of events.
  • Actively engage residents to participate in community-building initiatives.
  • Facilitate new resident orientation programs, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment while aiding in their acclimatization to the building and fostering relationships with staff and fellow residents.
  • Procure necessary materials and supplies for events, including maintaining a stock of "welcome baskets" for new tenants.
  • Coordinate food distribution during events.
  • Cultivate respectful and trusting relationships with tenants.
  • Arrange transportation for resident groups using company vehicles.
  • Schedule community bus services or transportation for local shopping and destination trips.
  • Employ conflict resolution techniques and crisis intervention strategies as needed.
  • Assist in addressing resident complaints and concerns, escalating issues to the Residential Services Manager when necessary.
  • Distribute informational materials to residents, ensuring accessibility for individuals with language differences, cultural disparities, visual impairments, or other specific needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma GED certification or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience.
  • Valid Washington State Driver License with fully insurable driving record.
  • Two (2) years’ experience working in the human services field, preferably with low-income, diverse, homeless, and special needs populations.

About Plymouth Housing Group

Plymouth Housing transforms lives by providing permanent, supportive homes to homeless people with few other options for housing. Since 1980, weve been providing homes to the most challenged homeless adults in our community. Today, over 1,000 low income and formerly homeless adults live in 14 Plymouth residential apartment buildings in the downtown Seattle area. Another 750 households have found a home in Seattle/King County through Plymouths Shelter Plus Care Program (a federal housing program Plymouth administers for King County). At the heart of Plymouths approach is the Housing First philo ... sophy, a philosophy that has proven successful across the country. Without a stable home, homeless people cannot access the assistance they need to address their problems. Lack of a stable home exacerbates chronic medical and mental health conditions, making it very difficult to improve ones life. At Plymouth, we work hard to lower the barriers to housing so that people who are shut out of housing have an opportunity to succeed. Our model of permanent housing, coupled with wrap around supportive services, helps people rebuild their lives, regain their dignity, and leave homelessness behind forever. More
