    Accountant I (Payroll)This position is directly responsible for supporting school department employees by preparing and maintaining school department payroll and is responsible for accounting, bookkeeping, and reconciliations. Some of the duties of this position include: Performing bi-weekly payroll processes; preparing and reconciling various employee deductions.
    • An ideal candidate will have the working knowledge of payroll and benefits and general accounting principles; high degree of accuracy; ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and perform mathematical computations; and ability to work under pressure and to set priorities in order to meet deadlines. This position typically works independently, but interacts regularly with employees and managers.
    • Prepares reports and manages data necessary for contract administration.
    • Prepares data and reports regarding fiscal matters and uses these materials in assisting Superintendent in developing collective bargaining proposals.
    • Consults with the Superintendent and assists in recommendations on specific personnel matters relating to the preparation and administration of collective bargaining agreements.
    • Consults with the Superintendent regarding the application of specific leave requests to collective bargaining agreements and manages all leave requests.
    • Maintains payroll personnel records for each permanent employee and participates in discussion of payroll and other personal data that impacts employment decisions by the Superintendent.
    • Assists the Director of Business Services in monitoring of unemployment compensation claims and process all unemployment paperwork as well as conducts phone hearing from time to time.
    • Processes monthly, quarterly, and annual reports that relate to payroll.
    • Processes MainePERS applications and updates.
    • Reconciles the retirement contributions and group life insurance level/premiums on a monthly basis.
    • Serves as primary point of contact for all matters related to employee benefits and coordinates the internal process to ensure accuracy, efficiency and success.
    • Serves as backup to Accountant I (Payroll) position.
    • Assist Director of Business Services with all other financial projects as assigned.
    • Starting pay $22.62
