Assistant Director of Communications
Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins’ focus on research, teaching and patient care, and its role as a national and global leader in higher education. We create and foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine; strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and patients.
Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence of 3 days per week. The manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.
The Office of Communications for DAR helps Johns Hopkins realize its mission of providing knowledge for the world by communicating the successes and priorities of the Johns Hopkins Institutions.
Working Closely With The Sr. Associate Director
  • Act as an assistant producer to plan, coordinate the logistics, and direct video shoots;
  • Schedule and conduct in-depth interviews;
  • Research story ideas; write scripts and correlating print articles, breaking down intricate subjects into accessible information;
  • Transfer, edit, and export/compress footage as needed;
  • Create 3D animated graphics and work on other design projects;
  • Shoot HD/4K video; and handle related tasks to facilitate the completion and distribution of video and other multimedia projects for use by central and divisional offices in support of institutional and division-specific goals.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Five (5) years of experience filming, directing and editing creative, compelling video and photography content.
  • Additional experience may substitute for education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred QualificationsSpecific knowledge of 3D animation creation, documentary filming and lighting techniques, and Adobe Premiere, AfterEffects, and Photoshop is required. Knowledge of digital file formats and knowledge of graphic design principles and production methods are also required.
The ability to shoot HD/DSLR/4k cameras and record audio is strongly preferred. Experience in higher education or non-profit environments is a plus.
The successful candidate for this position will be a versatile, creative, and highly productive individual who can organize workflow, set priorities, and thrive in a fluid and decentralized environment. The professional must be comfortable working independently and cooperatively with others and managing multiple projects at once with minimal supervision.
