Electro-Mechanical Technician

Job description

The technician will piece together and calibrate new machines and the supporting equipment from custom equipment fabricated by Austin AI vendors. They also diagnose issues, make necessary repairs, fabricate new components if necessary and execute performance tests. They may also be called upon to help with the installation of these systems in the field or assist in the repair or maintenance of systems installed at a customer’s location.

Skills necessary:
Mechanical assembly

• Using hand tools to assemble fabricated and machined components to complete machines.
• Knowledge of fastener types and use of those fasteners, both metric and UTS (English) thread types.
• Hand tool usage, both powered and non-powered.
• Must be able to read machine and assembly blueprints including the ability to “redline” drawings during a build and submit them to engineering for revisions if necessary.
• A high level of organizational skills required to assemble and kit fasteners and components prior to and during builds of equipment. This includes creating lists of items still needed for purchase using the drawings and from previous builds and build lists.
• The candidate must be physically capable of lifting 50 pounds under controlled conditions and using levers, jacks or other equipment to move assemblies or equipment if necessary.

Electrical assembly

• Fundamental understanding of electricity and electronic circuits.
• Apply the understanding of electronics to the selection of wire sizing and color codes in the building of equipment.
• The ability to use instruments such as multimeters and other analyzers to test circuits, and more importantly to trouble shoot problems in a circuit or system.
• Run wiring and create cables inside of machine housings.
• Have the ability to solder using soldering irons, understand the use of fluxes, solder types and where they can or should be used.
• Understand other termination techniques, the tools used and know how to apply them.
• The ability to read an electrical schematic.
• The ability to create a simple electrical schematic from an existing circuit or circuit created in the field or during a build and pass the sketch to engineering for revision or creation of a standard drawing.

Other useful skills

• The ability to Weld including Stick, MIG and TIG
• Experience driving Forklifts or other moving equipment
• Carpentry skills
• Metal working skills including sheet metal forming.

• Automobile Technician/Mechanic
• Maintenance Mechanic
• Assembly Technician/worker (beyond simple rote assembly on a construction line)
• Construction Technician.

Other items that will enhance the candidates desirability

• The ability to travel
• Having a passport or the ability to obtain a passport and be willing to travel overseas for installations
• The ability to work different hours in the rare occasion they may be required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
