Bernina of America, Inc. is Hiring a Senior Accountant Near Aurora, IL

Bernina of America/Mizar Holding Company is looking for a talented and experienced Senior Staff Accountant. The Sr. Accountant will report directly to the Controller and is responsible for all areas relating to general ledger, financial analysis and reporting for assigned companies. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. Address deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation and review, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and direct support of budget and forecasting activities. The Sr. Accountant will have contact with senior-level management which requires strong communication skills both written and verbal. This is a full time, onsite role working at our corporate headquarters in aurora, IL. Bernina offers a hybrid work schedule after 90 days which allows for four days in office, and one day remote.

Job Description:

  • Support all aspects of the Finance department and assigned company.
  • Build and maintain a high level of knowledge by staying current on initiatives and develop a thorough understanding of business processes.
  • As a key member of the Finance team the Sr. Accountant will complete the month-end close including journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, expense variance explanations, and financial reports for assigned company.
  • Maintains inventory, AR and AP sub ledger reconciliations.
  • Provides GL coding to AP or department heads as needed.
  • Maintains share service allocation expenses across all companies.
  • Assists in monthly product line margin reviews and maintains reports.
  • Leads in the collection of department bi-annual forecasts and annual budgets for assigned company.
  • Actively forecasts and budgets expenses for various overhead departments for assigned company and maintains expense trackers as needed.
  • Responds to inquiries from the CFO, Controller, and other finance and companywide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
  • Provides a proactive approach to problem solving, and a commitment to achieve deadlines and produce accurate information
  • Assists in the development and documentation of business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls to support US GAAP
  • Identifies, designs, and/or implements process improvements to support finance, operational, and strategic initiatives.
  • Contributes to the implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting policies and procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
  • Oversee compliance with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finances and reporting.
  • Support annual audit request and tax return preparation support
  • Ad hoc reporting and special projects, when requested
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
  • 5-8 years of accounting and variance analysis
  • Budgeting and forecasting experience
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently in a proactive manner
  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain relationships with all levels of management
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills, with good listening skills a must.
  • Excellent project management skills to see an initiative through from start to finish
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Proficient with spreadsheets, pivots and v-lookups
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Nav17, Business Central or other large automated systems a plus
