GENERAL SUMMARY:
Performs responsible work in the intake, review, processing, and issuance of construction permits. Advises contractors about the requirements of the various permit processes. Performs skilled computer work, including entering data and researching electronic files. Answers the telephone and emails providing specific and general information in response to public inquiries and requests, takes messages, and directs to appropriate destination; performs intermediate skilled clerical work in a variety of office assistance tasks requiring qualified typing skills; performs related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision and is reviewed through observation and reviews.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma, or equivalent, and preferable two year’s office experience or , preferably in construction permitting or some type of customer service role required. A college degree can be considered equivalent to work experience in some cases.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
Florida Notary Public or must obtain within first year of hire. International Code Council Permit Technician Certification desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to handle multiple in-person and phone call inquiries at one time, under stressful circumstances, while providing exceptional customer service. Ability to multi-task is critical.
Knowledge of basic math functions, standard office practices, procedures, equipment and office assistance techniques.
Skill in receiving and routing multiple telephone calls efficiently and tactfully.
Computer skills crucial. Skilled in Microsoft Office products and ability to learn new software. Ability to perform word processing; ability to perform typing and clerical support with accuracy; ability to research electronic files quickly and accurately.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; ability to determine the needs of citizens and skill in directing their call to the appropriate destination; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
