Job Summary

Surgery scheduling specialists act as a liaison between patient and physician, schedules all surgeries and pre-operative tests, and counsels patients prior to surgery regarding financial responsibility..

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Schedules procedures at facility along with any pre-procedure testing required.
• Obtains precertification/preauthorization from insurance companies prior to surgery for each procedure and test.
• Verifies patient eligibility and coverage for the procedure.
• Discusses pre-operative testing and instructions with the patient, as directed by physicians.
• Coordinates all business and clinical paperwork prior to surgery/procedure.
• Responds to written and telephone inquiries from patient and carriers regarding planned surgeries.
• Maintains communication among the physician, patient, insurance company, and hospital at all times.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Associates degree preferred; HS diploma or GED required.
• 4 years medical office experience; orthopedic setting preferred.
• 2 years prior surgical scheduling experience preferred.
• EMR experience required; MEDENT preferred, SIS preferred

Physical Demands

• Position requires manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
• Involves standing, sitting, and walking.
• Team member will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds; normal visual acuity and hearing are required.
