The number one responsibility of the Saw Operator is to operate the Saw in an efficient and safe manner to produce steel products for our customers. This includes:

• • Operates Saw in coordination with Shop Supervisor to efficiently prioritize cutting schedule.
  • Coordinates with Inventory Yard Operator to receive material on timely basis.
  • Verifies material prior to cutting for accuracy.
  • Accurately reports time tracking for project costs.
  • Communicates progress status and material needs to Shop Supervisor for scheduling.
  • Communicates with Detailer or Project Manager to review cutting diagrams as needed.
  The second responsibility of the Saw operator is to maintain the equipment in the shop. This includes:
  • Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the shop Supervisor.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Performs prescribed preventive maintenance on saw as required per the PM charts.
  • Must be willing to accept and receive frequent supervision and assistance with regard to machine set-up.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or Equivalent, required
• Minimum of 1 year of manufacturing related experience, preferred.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, preferred.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions from the weather. Noise level in the work environment can be loud.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and must work 36 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Occasional requirement to work overtime hours.

P&M Steel Co. was founded in 1970 by Louis Profilet, a long time steel worker, in the backside of a machine shed in the Industrial Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Working hard to satisfy the demands of a growing steel construction industry, Louis’s new company quickly grew to encompass six buildings on the original surrounding 3.3 acres of land. P&M Steel Co. had earned the reputation of being an industry leader in the region by providing rebar, structural, and miscellaneous steel as well as products such as beams, columns, stairs, and rails.

In 1998, ten years after he began with the company, son of Louis, Tate Profilet, took over operations. In May of 2006, the company saw the opening of its new 50,000 square foot office and production facility which resides on 7.5 acres only 1.5 miles away from where the company began 36 years earlier. Today, P&M Steel Co. is an established full service steel fabricator serving in a 100-mile radius of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
