The Country Club at Castle Pines is a private club that is perched at nearly 7,000 feet and boasts an exceptional Colorado country club lifestyle just minutes south of Denver. We are the premier private country club in the region located inside The Village at Castle Pines community. Our Signature Jack Nicklaus golf course weaves seamlessly into the Rocky Mountain landscape and provides members an unmatched golf experience, complete with our course, a 20-acre golf practice facility, and The Crags one acre putting course amidst incredible wildlife, rugged terrain, and breathtaking mountain views. The recent $25 million expansion project brings stylish new dining and social features to the clubhouse, as well as cliff side amenities to include an infinity edge pool, fitness, and racket sports.

Job Description

The Assistant General Manager is responsible for the design and implementation of all Food & Beverage and Service Department operations with a primary focus on providing outstanding member service. Equally important is the ability to intuitively embrace the need to be visible and highly interactive with the members and staff; leadership in this area begins and ends with communication, approachability, and accessibility. The Assistant General Manager designs, directs, supports, and implements policies and procedures that are aimed at delivering our mission of providing our Club Members, and their families and guests, with exceptional golf, dining, and social experiences. The Assistant General Manager must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly and effectively resolve issues that arise with members, staff, and operations.

Duties include:

Administration:

    • Works with Chief Financial Officer to understand departmental financial goals and coaches Food & Beverage and Service Departments to maintain monthly budget responsibilities.
    • Oversees all processes related to purchasing of food and beverage products used by Food & Beverage and Service Departments.
    • Approves menu items, pricing, and menu designs for all outlets, special events and banquet events.
    • Oversees all labor management processes to ensure that we are providing “Hospitality Through the Five Touch Points,” while staying within labor budget guidelines.
    • Approves invoices over $10,000 for Food & Beverage and Service Departments expenditures.
    • Oversees the physical inventory count for accuracy and integrity at the end of each inventory period. Assists and trains Food & Beverage and Service Department managers on standard operating procedures for the inventory process to ensure consistency and accuracy.
    • Oversees the care and maintenance of all Food & Beverage and Service Department assets in a timely and cost-effective manner.
    • Prepares and develops annual budget to present to the Finance Committee and answers questions or concerns in a timely manner.
    • Develops and implements systems toward better achieving the operational and financial goals of the club.
    • Prepares capital expenditure for repair & maintenance, or equipment requests for food and beverage operations for the club.
    • Assists in recruiting, training, coaching, and developing all department managers for the Food & Beverage and Service Departments.
    • Ensures all department managers adhere to all Club and departmental policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook, employee job descriptions and standard operating procedures manual for the Food & Beverage and Service Departments.
    • Must prepare and present 90-Day Performance Feedback Reviews for all Food & Beverage and Service Department managers.
    • Approves Food & Beverage and Service Department management timecards for each payroll and ensures that paid time off is accurately accounted for.
    • Approves paid time off requests for all direct reports in a timely manner and ensures proper scheduling coverage for their absence; serves as manager on duty when schedule coverage is inadequate.
    • Works closely with department managers to understand adequate staffing needs and approves requisitions requests forms for recruiting.
    • Adheres to and enforces Colorado State and Federal labor laws with Food & Beverage and Service Department management and staff.

Creativity & Innovation:

    • Works closely with the Events Manager and drives member engagement and sales through creative events and promotions; research new products and trends and stays current with members’ wants and requests.
    • Ensures the Communications Manager is marketing assigned events and promotions through text messaging, emails, and social media.
    • Work with the Executive Chef and General Manager to develop and design menus, pricing, purchasing and operational production to offered to club members in accordance with House and Social Committee guidelines and comparable pricing and menu concepts.
    • Interacts with guests to ensure that service and food quality expectations are being met and identifies and implements solutions for repeating issues or concerns. Documents issues or concerns within a communication log that all Food & Beverage and Service Department managers must read and sign off on.
    • Expands professional network within the golf club industry and seeks best practices from subject matter experts and golf club professionals.

Emotional Intelligence & Leadership

  • Accountability:
    • Is out front and drives all Food & Beverage and Service Department operations by coaching employees and management on the “Hospitality Through the Five Touch Points.”
    • Holds all department leaders accountable for achieving The Club’s Mission, Vision, and Goals.
    • Monitors and upholds Club uniform policy for Food & Beverage and Service Departments.
    • Manages all guest or member complaints and develops the correct course of action, reports findings and solutions to General Manager in a timely manner.
    • Develops and maintains all Standard Operating Procedures for Food & Beverage and Service Departments.
    • Maintains a monthly schedule for all Food & Beverage and Service Department managers to ensure that all restaurant shifts and events are appropriately staffed to provide “Hospitality Through the Five Touch Points.”
    • Follow the Club’s and departmental safety practices to minimize risk to self and others.
    • Maintains a record of Certified Life Savers for the ASV.
    • Drives sanitation and food safety adherence and signs off that the Executive Chef is maintaining a safe and sanitary food environment with a monthly Food Safety & Sanitation Checklist.
  • Empathy/Passion:
    • Meets with all Food & Beverage and Service Department staff on a biannual basis to get a pulse of the employee culture; listens to suggestions for improvement from employee meetings and addresses and communicates with those employees the answers to their questions or concerns. Reports on findings to the Director of People & Culture and the General Manager.
    • Drives shift execution by interacting with all Food & Beverage and Service Department staff to ensure we are driving a culture of “Hospitality Through the Five Touch Points.”
    • Ensures that all Food & Beverage and Service Department managers have proper scheduling coverage and appropriate time off for a proper work-life balance.
  • Positivity/Gratitude:
    • Serves as a consistent example of positivity in the workplace and motivates and encourages management staff to do the same.
    • Is responsible for acknowledging employee anniversaries and special events for all Food & Beverage and Service Departments.
    • Is a permanent member and required to attend the Employee Gratitude Committee on a monthly or periodic basis.
  • Team Building/Collaboration:
    • Assists or coordinates all Food & Beverage and Service Department functions with the respective Golf, Grounds, Maintenance, Sales, and administration Departments, as necessary.
    • Establishes and maintains professional business relations with strategic business partners or vendors.
  • Communication:
    • Directs Food & Beverage Meetings each week.
    • Attends Director’s Meeting and/or directs the Director’s Meeting in the absence of the General Manager.
    • Attends and participates in all Food & Beverage and Service Department meetings as needed, and/or directs those meetings in the absence of the meeting director.
    • Attends House and Social Committee Meetings on a routine basis.
    • Performs a monthly one-on-one meeting with all Food & Beverage and Service Department managers and ensures the completion of the Club’s succession planning tool in ADP.
    • Is a permanent member of the House Committee and supports the Club’s environmental initiatives. Identifies opportunities to minimize energy and resource consumption.
    • Is a permanent member and attends monthly Safety Committee Meetings and relays monthly safety topics or tips to all Food & Beverage and Service Department staff.
  • Other Duties
    • Conducts daily walk through to ensure the facility is safe and presentable.
    • In the absence of the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day functions of the Club.
    • Assist the General Manager with attracting new Golf and Social Members.
    • Provides input and recommendations for changes, improvements, etc., for consideration by the General Manager.
    • Other duties as assigned by the General Manager.

Education and Experience Requirement

The Assistant General Manager must have prior experience in the Food & Beverage and/or Golf Club industries, preferably in fine dining. Must have excellent leadership skills, demonstrating professional boundaries expected of senior leadership. Assistant General Manager should be:

    • Prepared to take risks when making decisions.
    • Committed to offering excellent member services.
    • Organized with great time-management skills.
    • Educated in P&L knowledge and accounting procedures.
    • Proficient in Microsoft 365 Office, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Meeting, ADP Workforce.
    • Able to have the courage to enforce policies and procedures used within the Food & Beverage and Service Departments.
    • High School Graduate (GED Equivalent), Associate of bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • CMAA Certified.
    • Certified in ServSafe and T.I.P.S. and possess a working knowledge of A.E.D. operation.
    • Actively participates in membership(s) within the PGA and/or CMAA.

Working Environment/Physical Demands

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
    • Must be able to multi-task in a fast paced, moderately noisy environment.
    • Employees will be required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch and potentially crawl.
    • Employees work both inside and outside and are subject to extreme weather conditions, such as wind, sunshine, hot and cold temperatures, rain and/or snow.
