Assists clients with completion of mortgage applications, inspecting completed documents for accuracy and thoroughness. Reviews loan applications, gathers credit histories and reports, and assesses applicants capacity to repay and default risk.

Essential functions:

• Evaluate and authorize the approval of business, real estate, or credit loans.
• They are specialists in evaluating the financial status of a loan applicant.
• Duties include updating account records and reviewing loan files.
• They work for commercial banks, mortgage companies, or credit unions.

Education and experience required:

• The 2010 Safe Act requires all prospective loan officers to complete 20 hours of education. The classes you take cover federal laws and regulations, ethics, nontraditional mortgage lending, and 10 hours of electives.
