Position Title: CENTER SUPERVISOR

Program: ATASCADERO WELLNESS CENTER “Life House”

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Manager for the Atascadero Wellness Center, the Center Supervisor is responsible for the trauma informed supervision, and coordination of staff, programs, and facilities that provide wellness and recovery support and education and social rehabilitation day programs for adults with mental illness. The Center Supervisor for the Atascadero Wellness Center is responsible for the organization and direction of the Wellness Center designed to assist adults in their journey to mental health wellness & recovery, as well as connecting members and participants to their community. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining consumer-driven services that empower individuals in recovery while fostering self-respect, dignity, and self-determination. The Center Supervisor must be capable of assuming program duties in the absence of the Program Manager. This position promotes wellness, recovery, empowerment, advocacy for the members and participants and is responsible for having knowledge and skills in all aspects of the Wellness Center. The Center Supervisor will uphold and promote the Center philosophy as well as the philosophy of TMHA in all duties performed. The Atascadero Wellness Center philosophy focuses on the individual person, their journey to wellness, providing education, empowerment, and support to help the person live the best life they choose to live.

Hours/ Salary

Full-time, 40 hours per week. Anticipated hiring range is $22.50-$26.00 per hour. Includes a generous individual benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life, 403b retirement (with up to a 5% employer match) paid vacation/holiday time, paid sick time and a variety of helpful employee perks as well.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Understand, implement, and ensure social rehabilitation standards and philosophy in all programs in addition to promoting the basic tenets of mental health recovery: Hope, Personal Responsibility, Self-Advocacy, Education, and Support. This includes promoting a shift of focus in mental health care from symptom control to prevention and recovery. 
  2. Supervises Person-Centered, Recovery based supports designed for life enrichment, personal development, empowerment, advocacy, peer support, community resources, recovery education, social skill development, and various wellness workshops, for adults with mental illness.
  3. Ensures that Services provided by the Atascadero Wellness Center is gauged for multiple age groups, and various cultures with focus upon, mental health recovery, independence, advocacy, and empowerment. Based on member feedback, the Center Supervisor also ensures that the Atascadero Wellness Center offers social support, skills training, recreation activities, and assistance with independent living skill development.
  4. Encourages all members to take an active role in the running of their center, facilitates the development of peer-run activities, and includes members in program decision-making on all levels. 
  5. Provides Curriculum Based Workshops on an ongoing basis to members and participants. Curriculums to include: prevocational skills, goal setting, social skills, self expression, critical thinking, positive thinking skills, budgeting skills, coping skills, symptom education, recreation skills, physical health education, problem solving, nutrition education, depression education, anxiety education, self- awareness, teamwork skills, money management, cultural awareness, interpersonal skills, meditation & relaxation education, and self –esteem.
  6. Works with the community to eliminate the discrimination and stigma associated with mental illness as well as educating the community on aspects of wellness, recovery, and peer advocacy.
  7. Is responsible for providing training, coordinating schedules, and providing support to Atascadero Wellness Center volunteers, interns, and staff members.
  8. Promote, encourage and maintain trauma-informed practices in all services and activities. 
  9. Practice and promote, both individually and in team meetings, the Collaborative Communication Guidelines
  10. Provides guidance, support, and problem solving to members, interns, volunteers, peers and staff. Leads by example and empowers staff members to grow and expand their abilities and knowledge. 
  11. Ensure a clean, safe, healthy, and welcoming environment at the Atascadero Wellness Center.
  12. Meet weekly with staff members of each center and as a group at the department staff meeting.
  13. Meet weekly with the Program Manager to discuss program issues and collaborate on program development, program evaluation, and budget oversight. 
  14. Review programs to ensure compliance with: program policies, recognized professional ethical standards, safety and program site maintenance standards.
  15. Participate in Outreach Community Activities to educate the community on Wellness Center Resources and ways of eliminating mental health discrimination and stigma.
  16. Implement agency policies and ensure accurate program paperwork; this includes time sheets, petty cash, attendance forms, receipts, inventory and units of service forms.
  17. Work with Cal Poly, Cuesta and other agencies and organizations that provide interns, volunteers and coordinators. Also recruit and supervise volunteers and interns. 
  18. Train and support all staff members who bill to Medi-Cal. Work as a liaison with County Mental Health staff to maintain and update documentation standards as well as oversight in the timely delivery of charting. 
  19. In coordination with the Program Manager, hire, train, supervise and develop program staff; this includes interviews, evaluations, consultations, terminations and scheduling of all staff. 
  20. Communicates both positive and constructive feedback clearly and in a timely manner with staff, documenting when necessary. Remains approachable and open for staff to communicate problems or ask questions. 
  21. Complete required hours of in-service training and attend all required meetings and monitor staff completion of the same. Promote and facilitate the development of additional training to meet specific program needs.
  22. Promote community involvement in the centers and coordinate and organize various agency related and community events (e.g., TMHA holiday party, Halloween Party, Opening Minds Art Show, etc.). Connects members to various community resources (including all TMHA Programs in SLO County & N. Santa Barbara County) to members and participants. Basic resources include transportation, volunteer opportunities, center leadership opportunities, social activities, education, training, etc. 
  23. Develop, coordinate and implement member leadership opportunities (i.e. paid activities, outreach events, presentations, etc.).
  24. Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Manager.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements 

Bachelor’s Degree in a related Human Services field and at least 6 months social rehabilitation experience; or at least three years social rehabilitation experience. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style and strong oral/written and communication skills. Must be responsible, and reliable, and possess problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Well defined organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and flexibly. Ability to handle intense situations, display good judgment and decision-making skills, and remain calm and clearheaded under pressure. Ability to work well within a team and maintain a professional, respectful attitude in the workplace. Ability to be willing to work with supervisor oversight and direction. Able to work effectively with a variety of people and personality types regardless of age, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or socio-economic level. Must use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices while acting in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, clients, and other persons contacted through TMHA business. Conditions of employment include: Must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid CA Driver’s License, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements. May be required to utilize personal vehicle and auto insurance. Ability to possess and maintain good physical and mental health. Attendance is an essential function of this job that requires face-to-face interaction with clients and/or other employees. Must comply with a TB assessment (possibly a TB test if needed to confirm a negative tuberculosis result) and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting. Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
