Academy of Collaborative Education is Hiring a School Nurse Near Monroe, LA

ACE seeks a compassionate School Nurse adept at providing medical care, health screenings, and health education tailored to the diverse needs of students, particularly those with ASD. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional clinical skills, effective communication across various levels, and a sincere dedication to student well-being.

JOB TITLE: School Nurse

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Louisiana
  • Certification in school nursing (CSN) or willingness to obtain certification within a specified timeframe
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in pediatric or school nursing
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, with the ability to make independent nursing judgments

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 11 months

EVALUATION: Annually

COMPENSATION: Salary position

PERFORMANCE/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate effectively with staff, visitors, and families
  • Maintain flexibility and adaptability in various working environments
  • Proficient in computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google documents, etc.)
  • Knowledgeable about school safety and security procedures
  • Work independently and collaboratively, with attention to detail
  • Celebrate student achievements and successes
  • Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Obtain and maintain CPI
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare software applications
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to school health services and student privacy (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA)

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct healthcare services to students and staff, including assessment, treatment, and management of illnesses and injuries
  • Conduct health screenings, such as vision and hearing tests, and coordinate follow-up care as needed
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records for students, ensuring compliance with regulations
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic conditions, in collaboration with parents, healthcare providers, and school staff
  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and school policies, ensuring proper documentation and storage
  • Monitor immunization compliance and coordinate immunization clinics or educational programs as needed
  • Educate students, staff, and families on health promotion, disease prevention, and safety practices
  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, counselors, and staff to promote a healthy school environment
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid and emergency care as needed
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, and other school-related meetings as a healthcare representative
  • Stay updated on current healthcare practices, policies, and regulations relevant to school nursing and student health services

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Position may involve: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, and other physical activity.

LIGHT WORK:

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is routinely performed in an indoor and outdoor classroom setting.
