NHBS-Trans Study Operations Assistant The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers.To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City. PROGRAM OVERVIEW The HIV Epidemiology Program (HEP) is recruiting a Study Operations Assistant for the New York City National HIV Behavioral Surveillance Study among transgender women (NHBS-Trans). The project aims to measure HIV prevalence, sex and drug use behaviors, testing and utilization of HIV prevention services, and social determinants of health among women of trans experience and transfeminine people. Data collection will be preceded by a formative research assessment phase that will include in-depth interviews with stakeholders and community members, focus groups, and community engagement. During data collection, participants will undergo an interviewer-administered survey, offered blood-based HIV testing, offered self-administered STI testing via oral and rectal samples, and linked to care and services. Participants will be recruited via respondent driven sampling (RDS) with a recruitment goal of 300 participants.POSITION OVERVIEW The Study Operations Assistant (SOA) will report to and provide high-level assistance to the NHBS-Trans Project Coordinator (PC). The SOA will be responsible for supporting formative assessment, recruitment, and on-site data collection activities as needed for the project. Staff in this position: 1) must adhere to strict detailed survey research protocols; 2) have ability to comply with strict protocols for confidentiality; 3) must have strong attention to detail; and 4) have ability to establish rapport with diverse racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, and sexual orientation groups, particularly individuals who identify as transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary, and other gender expansive communities (TGNCNBI2 ). The SOA will be expected to maintain confidentiality, and effectively communicate with their supervisor daily. This is a temporary full-time position until early 2023 or until the end of data collection (if sooner) and contingent on grant funding. Evening and weekend hours may be required. Training will be provided. RESPONSIBILITIES Assist PC in implementing formative research including recruiting stakeholders and members of the community, conducting key informant interviews, focus group discussions and implementing other qualitative research methods., Via community outreach, assist in recruiting initial set of participants who will initiate chain recruitment. Attend and assist in planning Collaborative Board meetings. Assist in study start-up activities, including developing the site protocol, securing data collection sites, and ensuring all supplies and equipment are ordered in advance of data collection Assist the PC in recruiting, hiring, and training of staff, as needed Conducting standardized surveys with study participants Collecting specimens for blood-based HIV testing via fingerstick Providing guidance to participants on how to self-collect specimens oral and rectal specimens for STI testing Providing HIV and STI counseling and linkage to care Collecting blood samples using dried-blood spots (DBS) for further testing Assisting PC with DBS and STI specimen storage and shipping. Assist with coupon management, using Coupon Manager software (training will be provided). Assist PC in providing STI test results either in-person or through telephone Maintain data integrity (i.e., all data collected accurately represents the information provided by a participant) and participant confidentiality Prepare and maintain interview and testing materials and supplies Responsible for learning, comprehending, and incorporating culturally competent knowledge in engagements with TGNCNBI2 communities. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or GED Experience working with transgender communities Comfortable asking questions about health, sex, drug use and discrimination.
