School Overview

The New Century School is a recognized, independent, private school located in the Fell’s Point neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. We cater to children in preschool through middle school. Our progressive, 21st-century curriculum focuses on critical thinking, global awareness, and language learning. TNCS’s academic philosophy combines dual-language learning, inquiry, and multiculturalism within a mixed-age/grade, small-classroom setting.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for a full-time ELA teacher. Ideal candidates should have a strong track record in implementing and engaging students within an inquiry-based, progressive learning approach. They should also demonstrate excellent classroom management; strong communication skills; and a nurturing, flexible, and professional demeanor. Finally, candidates must be open to a co-teaching, collaborative environment, have a progressive mindset, and be a reflective practitioner and team player. 

The candidate must have a BA or BS in Education, or a related field (advanced degrees are preferred), with a minimum 3 years’ experience in a classroom setting. They will be expected to successfully meet the following responsibilities and duties:

• Be able to teach students a combination of the core subjects: ELA, math, global studies, and/or science collaboratively and in an engaging manner. 
• Adapt instructional methods to the varying aptitude, developmental stages, and learning styles of the students in their classroom.
• Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment.
• Maintain careful anecdotal and assessment records for individual students, and prepare accurate, comprehensive report cards each quarter.
• Provide individual and small group instruction in order to ensure academic excellence by knowing the needs of the students and adapting the curricula to challenge them appropriately.
• Participate in appropriate in-service programs or other professional development.
• Be available to consult with students, parents, and colleagues as part of parent conferences and on an as-needed basis for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
• Maintain a professional manner when interacting with students, parents, community agencies, and colleagues. Respond promptly and with care to parent concerns and work collaboratively with colleagues on best practices for instruction.
• Be flexible with providing instruction both virtually and in hybrid teaching models.This position requires 5 day a week, on-campus teaching with the ability to quickly transition to our virtual program whenever needed. Must be competent in using the technologies and strategies necessary to teach both on campus and virtually.
• Perform other assigned duties.
