The New Century School is an independent, language-based preschool through middle school located in the Fells Point area of Baltimore. It is the goal of The New Century School to provide a safe, warm, fun, nurturing, and highly creative environment that is also culturally and academically rich. The job of creating a stimulating and challenging atmosphere in which children can develop and learn is the shared responsibility of the administrators, teachers, and teacher assistants. 

The teaching assistant will co-teach 2-5-year-olds and will be responsible for implementing curriculum and activities that are age appropriate. The position is from Monday through Friday. Native level proficiency in Mandarin is required. 

The ideal candidate will: 

• Assist with lesson planning; 
• Assist with classroom schedule and room arrangement consistent with ERS (Environment Rating Scales) Identify barriers to learning and report to Teacher; 
• Greet participants and guests warmly and enthusiastically each day; 
• Maintain positive relationships with families, allowing Teacher to address concerns to parents; 
• Promote feelings of trust and security in the program; 
• Assist in completion of timely, neat, accurate documentation of infant daily sheets, toileting/diapering logs, assessments, screenings, attendance, inventory, temperature logs and other documentation that may be necessary for quality services; 
• Understand and apply the school’s vision and mission as a Multilingual, Montessori Program; Perform simple daily house cleaning duties in each classroom; 
• Maintain safe, clean environment, teaching and modeling good hygiene skills; 
• Attend all staff meetings and trainings as scheduled; 
• Maintain confidentiality regarding all personal information regarding children, families and staff; 
• Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in education; ● Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

• Must be Maryland Senior Staff qualified (possessing the 90-hour certification) OR hold an Associates or Bachelor's degree (with transcripts) in Early Childcare Education (ECE)
• Must have a strong work ethic, be dependable and have strong communication skills 
• Must be fluent in Mandarin Chinese and highly motivated to use the language exclusively in an immersion setting with preschool students.
