City of Bullhead City is Hiring an ANIMAL SHELTER ASSISTANT Near Bullhead, AZ

This position will assist with all types of duties at the Animal Shelter and make a difference in our community and those that live in it! The employed will participate in the daily operations of the animal shelter including animal cage/kennel cleaning, maintenance, record keeping, licenses, basic animal grooming, disinfecting all animal areas/ items, feeding, dishes, animal handling, office support, laundry, adoptions on and off site, events and fundraisers, and possibly assisting in euthanasia.

*Age requirement: 18 years of age or older.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 
High School Diploma or GED, and any combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the functions of the position. Wear required uniform and be required to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
LICENSING & TRAINING:
  • Valid State Driver's License
  • National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) training based on assignment.
*Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.
  • Monitors animals looking for sickness, infection and other problems; quarantines animals, when necessary.
  • Enters information into computerized database such as owner's name and disposition of animals (adopted, redeemed).
  • Maintains records of animal impounded, licenses issued, license fees collected, adoption, and redemption.
  • Processes license applications, collecting fees and issuing licenses.
  • Conducts periodic licensing and rabies clinics; completes rabies clinic certificates.
  • Receives lost/found reports.
  • Assist while giving vaccines and or microchip
  • Assist in euthanasia
  • Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Department rules and procedures relating to the assignment.

ABILITY TO:

  • Communicate in the English language with the public by phone or in person in a one-to-one setting.
  • Work cooperatively with the public and other City employees.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Comprehend and make inferences from material in the English language and learn job related material through observation and oral instructions.
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment.
  • Learn the geography of the City of Bullhead City.
  • Operate a computer using a keyboard or other devise.
  • Clearly hear and respond to radio communications, voice instructions, an/or commands under a variety of working situations and background noise levels consistent with scene processing and/or traffic control.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by and employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to climb or balance; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, walk, sit and talk or hear, stand for extended periods of time, using hand/arms above shoulder level while operating a whistle; handle and feel objects, tools, or controls. Use visual and muscular dexterity to operate a motor vehicle and various tools; exercise independent judgment and recognize emergency and hazardous situations. The employee may be required to move or drag up to 165 lbs. without assistance; carry up to 50 lbs. short distances without assistance. Specific hearing abilities include ability to hear, hold conversation with others by telephone, in person, and over radio equipment. Specific vision abilities required abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee can be in an office and regularly works in a variety of weather conditions. The employee is required to work flexible shifts that include evenings, weekends and holidays. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, and moderate to loud when in the kennel.
