Full job description
The QIDP Direct Support Professional (DSP) position is primarily responsible for supporting individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing services in the form of implementing the plan of care and completing documentation requirements in accordance with state and agency guidelines. Services may be provided in the individual's home, day support program or in the community. Services focus on building skills, assisting the individual to meet his or her personal goals and ensuring the individual's health, safety and medical needs are met.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must hold a bachelor’s degree in a human services field such as sociology, social work, special education, rehabilitation counseling, nursing or psychology.
Ability to demonstrate competency in all required fields.
DSP Orientation Certification or ability to acquire certification prior to serving individuals.
CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to acquire certification within 30 days of employment.
Certification in enCircle’s Crisis De-escalation/Behavior management or ability to acquire certification within 30 days of employment.
Valid Virginia Drivers’ license and proof of insurance in compliance with driver requirement policy.
Ability to acquire Medication Administration certification as required.
Satisfactory Driving Record with no negative points balance.
Access to a personal vehicle for client transport as required.
Ability to satisfactorily complete Mechanical Lift Training as required.
Knowledge of and ability to comply with state licensing, Medicaid and other agency standards.
Flexibility to work at sites other than usual work location when circumstances warrant.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES May be required to perform any of the following duties:
Reads and follows the Individualized Service Plan (ISP) for individuals.
Ensures all services are provided according to the ISP (skill-building and support with hygiene and self-care, health and safety needs, daily living activities, meals, and recreational activities).
Ensures all services are documented as required by agency procedures and regulatory standards.
Completes and submits required daily paperwork, monthly progress reviews/supervision for each individual according to established agency guidelines.
Administers medication to each individual as prescribed; follows medication management training and enCircle guidelines; documents medical administration as necessary Prepares food and meals while complying with portion control and/or nutritional guidelines for each individual as specified. This may include following specific diets or allergy and mealtime protocols.
Keeps all areas clean and organized.
Provides transportation by driving individuals to and from destinations per PCP; and provides support to individuals during outing.
Observes Health and Safety Regulations and responds to emergency situations by reporting emergencies, injuries and aggressive behavior of individuals to the supervisor; following emergency preparedness plans or emergency procedures; proactively implementing Crisis De-escalation/Behavior management techniques as appropriate; implementing First Aid or CPR when required; and completing appropriate documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
Treats individuals, families, other employees and supervisors with respect and dignity.
Demonstrates understanding of Human Rights Rules and Regulations and upholds the Human Rights Plan.
Upholds the Prevention of Disease Transmission Guidelines; Confidentiality Practices; employment policies manual; and agency policies and procedures.
Follows the chain of command.
Meets and maintains agency driver standards (if required by position).
Attends trainings and meetings as required.
Provides agency with information necessary to maintain their employee file.
Is accessible; maintains contact with supervisor in a timely manner.
Maintains satisfactory attendance and provides supervisor advance notification of absences.
Represents agency favorably during phone calls, meetings, family visits, etc.
Performs other duties, as directed.
Group Home DSP
Agrees with enCircle to exclude from hours worked bona fide regularly scheduled sleeping periods of not more than 5.5 hours, provided adequate sleeping facilities are furnished by enCircle and the DSP can usually enjoy an uninterrupted night's sleep. Please note: No reduction is permitted unless at least 5.5 hours of sleep is taken.
Community Engagement Day Support DSP (Additional job responsibilities for this service)
Supports individuals to find and maintain meaningful connections and relationships in the community.
Supports individuals to explore volunteer and work options and to use the community as a learning environment where personal relationships and meaningful experiences are built.
Supports individuals to gain greater independence utilizing skills to appropriately engage in the community and to pursue options available to all members of the community, including advocating for oneself and exercising civil rights.
